Can Somebody Help Me?

What's wrong with this picture? I've taken 2 deer with this setup. But tonight, I had a doe at 8 yards right where I wanted her. I began my draw and she bugged out. An hour later, I had a gorgeous 9 pointer standing in the same spot, totally oblivious to my presense and feeding, and when I began my draw he bugged out to.

I'm hard of hearing, so when I came home I asked the Squaw to listen to the draw. Sure enough, the feathers are making noise as they are drawn back away from the rest.

My question is: what would you folks suggest to remedy this situation? I'd sure appreciate any help forthcoming from the great gang here at TG.

Shorter feathers and I'd check to see if the brace height is where it should be. Looks a tad short.

That brace height looks way short too me also.

Thanks. I'm going to go with the brace height theory. What next? What is the right way to change it?

Twist your string tighter so you are basically making the string shorter which will increase brace height and bring those feathers off of the rest.

Tioga... When you fletch the arrow, you can also move the feathers back toward the nock so that there is a space of 1" from throat of nock to back of fletch.

Thanks Charly. Last night I changed the brace height and that seemed to fix the feather problem. I'm going to head out in a bit to shoot the bow and see how it works out. Hopefully this will get me through the season until I can refletch arrows. Thanks for the tip.

your brace height may change as your string wears all depending on what type of material your string is made of.

Like said your brace looks alittle low,but also your nocking point looks alittle low also.Are you arrows flying good?

Kevin,

Once you have the brace height where you want it, measure it with a ruler and constanly check it. If you unstring bow all the time, I never re string without measuring my brace height. Strings stretch over time. Once you get your arrows fletched the way Charlie suggested you will beable to tell if brace heights on everytime you knock an arrow just by where your fletching is. Bow maker can tell you where ideal brace height should be.

My arrow flight was excellent before I changed the brace height. And yes the nocking point does look low, but it's not. Arrow flight looks good now to. I raised the brace height by an inch and it gave me good results.

Knowing the way things work for me, I think I'm going to everything as is until the season is over, then start messing around with different feather positions.
