G'day folks,

I recently bought a nice bag 'o goodies from 3 Rivers, including steel blunts, bunny busters and Bludgeon Blunt. I am very anxious to test out the works.

Up until now, I have been using Judo points, which I really like, however, when I happen to hit a rock.....well there is a lot of destruction. Rubber blunts supposedly lessen the damage to one's arrow from rock strikes.

Question: which do you prefer for an all 'round stump shooting/small game head: bunny buster or bludgeon blunt?

Without having tried either, I am leaning towards the 125 gr. steel blunt with a bunny buster over top; for the primary reason that this combo is a nice 249 grain head -- as opposed to the 125 gr. bludgeon blunt -- which provides a nice heavy head, high FOC and more closely matches the arrow balance with a broadhead. Seems to me that this added weight would be more effective for small critters too.

That's my armchair theory until such time as I get out and test both heads.

Would very much welcome comments from the group.

Thanks folks.

I'd think it would depend on what your arrows are spined for. Do they fly better with 125 or 250 on the nose...

Back in the 1970's I used the HTM (same as Barta) over a steel blunt or field point on rabbits and squirrels to great effect.  That makes for about 250 grains or so up front and nocks the snot out of bunnies and squirrels. I don't think I would use any blunt on snowshoe hares or bigger small game though, unless you are absolutely sure of a head shot.
