Back in 2005 during my trainup for Deployment, I had the opportunity to take some up close pictures of the wild Gemsbok that roam in the desert near El Paso. My question is can they be bowhunted, and if so, could someone send me some information on hunting them? I.E. A local guide and Outfitter.

These particular animals I got photos of were on the FT Bliss Military property but, I heard that they can also be found off military lands. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Seeing how Texas is 90%+ privately owned I doubt it.
There are free ranging exotics in Texas on state land but it's usually draw hunts. I'm no expert by any means, maybe someone else will chime in. You can try here also.

Time is a great teacher, but unfortunately it kills all its pupils.

TW, check out the New Mexico website, they have a draw for exotics....

TW,
NM offers a once-in-a-lifetime hunt for Oryx, as well as broken-horn Oryx hunts, WSMR (White Sands Missile Range) Badge Hunts, and Oryx off-range hunts.
Check out the Game & Fish website (www.wildlife.state.nm.us), where you can get all the details and print out Big Game & Trapper regulations.
Applications are due by February and Nonresident fees (for this year) are $1,618.

Also, Oryx in NM can be hunted with a bow, muzzleloader or centerfire firearm.

Wannabe1,

If you are still in the military you should be able to hunt them on the Ft Bliss military reservation I would think.

Other than that since most land in Texas is privately owned you would need permission just about anywhere you hunted.

Thanks for all the replies and information guys. I am looking into hunting on the properties of FT Bliss and if there are any military discounts for out of state hunters. I would imagine that there isn't but, never hurts to try. Again, thanks for everything.

J.Adams: Actually the ones I took photos of were not far from the White Sands Missle Range. We seen a pretty good bunch there by a watering hole while doing LandNav training.
