Fort Collins,CO

My son's considering grad school, and one of his options is in Fort Collins. Having been brought up with the proper priorities,what kind of bowhunting options are available in that area? He's talking about trying to do a campus visit sometime this year. I know I wouldn't mind having to go out there for a "visit",myself. Thanks, knobby

Lived there for 4 years. Loved it.Miss it. There are tons of opportunities to hunt. Your son will have a ball if he goes there. Good luck!

I just came through Ft Collins about an hour ago, we do some of our shopping down there. Nice country, mild winters, well maintained city. A little crowded for me but most places are compared to Wyo.

Really nice place to live and work. I went to school in Greeley, but we all wanted to spend all our time in Ft. Collins!

I spend a week every year at a cabin there my buddy and his family built. It's my favorite week of the year.

When you have an archery hunting-scenario range that is a city park- it gets pretty close to paradise! Wish I lived there. . .

Be sure to tell your son to bring his shotgun along with his bow. Excellent goose hunting in the area, both resident and migrating Canadas.

great place. there is alot of trad people there to. Arrow Dynamics is the archery shop there. They have a traditional league night each thursday in the winter. There is also the outdoor range there. It is maintained by the local club but funded by the city. Very nice place.

There is great hunting close and alot of other stuff to do as well.

I have lived a few miles east and south of Ft. Colling. Have lived here all my life (59 yrs). An excellent shop ( Arrow Dynamics ) have known the owner for 30 + yrs. Great hunting and fishing just west of Ft. Collins ( Poudre Canyon ). From there it only takes about 1/2 hr to be in good deer and elk hunting locations. I do a lot of fly fishing west of town also. The town is located right at the foot of the Rockies. There also is a very good outdoor archery range. It is town property and they provide the target butt, and the local club does the maintenance of the range. They have a 3D shoot every month. A lot of trad shooters in the area. Just a few miles north ( Cheyenne, Wyo. ) is another great club that has a huge summer 3D shot in the mountains. They also have a triple crown ( 3 months in a row) shoot in the winter. They also have a trad only shoot indoors during the winter.
CSU is a very fine school. It is really growing, was originally started as an AG/ Vet. school.

Great area and school.

My son moved there after college and I love to visit. It is a great area. Make sure you have a good fly rod if you visit in the summer. The Poudre River is a great trout stream, and fly fishing is a great way to see where the critters hang out so you are ready for hunting season.

Thanks for the input, guys. An archery range on city park grounds? Fantastic...we can't even (legally) shoot an arrow within city limits where I live. It sounds like a place where most of us would like to live, or at least spend some time. Thanks again, knobby

I lived there briefly a couple years back.. Great city... lots to do outdoors wise! The cache de poudre river has some good fishing above town, some superbe carp fly fishing in town (SHHHH, it's a secret!), great turkey hunting, and of course, being Colorado, lots of good (though in a lot of places over crowded) mulie and elk hunting. For a treat, head up to Estes park to see the elk running around town like grasshoppers. My only complaint about F.C. was the traffic... if you get on over there, stop by Jax outdoors and say hi to the fellas there

Visited twice. What a fantastic place. Never hunted, but saw tons of animals. Area is a recreation dream!!!!!

I live here in the Great Fort. Ive lived in a few places Nothing Like this though.. I'm even Alum from CSU.. Shoot me a PM I can help answer alot of your questions..
