Matt,
Please forgive my fellow Tradgangers if they sounded like they were jumping on you.  Many of us are very protective of this obsession of ours.  The sad fact is that hunting in general is under attack.  Bowhunting is even more demonized and trad bowhunting is the "worst" according to the uninformed.  My friends were concerned that you were planning to buy a bow and some arrows and go wound a deer.  All of us are different in how quickly we develop our form and accuracy with a barebow.  It took me a full year of practice before I felt confident of placing an arrow where it needed to be each and every time and that was under perfect conditions.  I refused to hunt until I had that degree of confidence.  It took me two years after that to get a shot opportunity that I was comfortable with but that's another story.  Once you get your bow and start practicing you will soon learn whether or not you will be ready to hunt by opening day this season.  In the mean time, welcome to the "Gang"!  There's a wealth of information available on here.

Hey John
I understand the concerns that you all have because they are concerns that are mine as well.I have the up most respect for animals and nature.I would never in a 100 years take a shot at a deer if i thought for one second i might wound the animal and not make a humane kill. For me its not about taking a deer home every time i go hunting, its much bigger than that.
Will i be ready to take a deer at 40 yards with my recurve by Oct. 13th....no.Will i be sitting in my blind come Oct. 13th waiting for a buck to stroll within 15 yards so i can harvest him?You bet your
whitetail i will!!
Thanks for the help guys
