Advice on Fred Bear Razorhead

I use nothing but the Fred Bear Razorheads.  Is their an advantage on using the bleeder blades for deer.  What are your thoughts about using them with no bleeder blades and simple two blade head?

I've always used them as two blade to good advantage, but I may try the inserts this year just for schnits and giggles.  Fred Bear liked using them.

I use them without the bleeders and they work just fine.

If you use the bleeders make sure they are as sharp as the broadhead it's self.  They dull very easy and because they are so thin getting the right edge can be tricky.
Also and this is very important, if you do stick a deer or any game be extremely careful gutting it because the bleeder will most probably break inside of the animal leaving pieces to cut you when you reach inside.

Used Bear Razorheads w/bleeders for years and loved their affect on the deer and the blood trails they left.

Never had a problem with penetration or breaking bleeders.

Tip... find the front end of the arrow. If the bleeder is there, no problem. If not find it.

If the exit hole (I got tons of those) is a + then no need to worry.

Ceramic stick makes a good sharpener for the bleeders... a light touch is all that's needed on them.

The bleeder blades on the razorheads were designed to break according to text on package of head.I readi it years ago.I believe they stopped producing them in 1980'(the glue on style).

I've killed many dear with the Bear head with the bleeders.  Makes an awesome blood trail.  Never had any problem with the bleeder blades in the meat.  Charlie Lamb explained it best. And like Bowbender stated they must be as sharp as the broadhead!

I use an accusharp to sharpen both the main blade and the bleeder-blades.  I've used them with and without the bleeder-blades.  I've experienced better bloodtrails with the bleeders.

As Tom mentioned the original plan was to break off or become somewhat of a barbed head when the bleeder slips sideways and does not snap....Not sure anyone I know has ever eaten a bleeder blade.Another thought was,with the bleeder blade installed Fred felt the hole would be a bit larger.Preventing the hide from closeing up around the shaft....Remember Bear Archery produced over 3.5 million broadheads.They must work somewhat OK huh ??? bowdoc

I think the bleeders are a big advantage-but as others have said make sure they are sharp. In Bear's concept, the bleeder was a central component to the head's design. I've used them almost exclusively for forty plus years and have never had the penetration issues some guys mention because of the bleeder blade.  Grant
