I am wanting to go to wood arrows and another wood I have been looking at was sitka spruce. Can you tell me how you liked them compared to cedar? how was the weight factor? Thanks...Kenny

I made a dozen Sitka Spruce arrows a few years back.  I had been using POC for a while and decided to explore my options, so I made a set of Chundoo and a set of Sitka Spruce.

Compared to the POC, the Sitka Spruce were a bit light, but WAY stronger!  They took some real abuse.

The Chundoo were tougher than the POC as well, though not quite as tough as the Sitka Spruce, and heavier than both.

I made a dozen Sitka Spruce a while back and really like them. Tough and shoot really well. Previously all I've used were POC.  They don't smell near as good though.

I like both POC and Sitka spruce.  I like light arrows in the 7-8gp# for 3-D shooting, and spruce are lighter, plus I ask for very light weight at my spine, and Roxanne fixes me up.  For stump, aerial, & jug shooting, I like heavier arrows in the 10gp#+  range, so I shoot POC mostly for these targets. 5/16 Sitka shafts are faster at the lighter weights, so break quicker on trees IMHO.  I don't hunt anymore, but shoot lots of arras.  Bill G.

You can get a 29" spruce arrow with 160gr tip to come out to about 580gr. In the heavier spine weights they are about the same weight as POC. Just depends on how close the growth rings are. Talk with Roxanne at Hildebrands and she will work with you on an order that will fit your needs.

I shoot the 65 spine sitka spruce made by Paul Jalon of Elite arrows...mine are alittle heavier than POC and tough as all get out.

I've abused the same dozen for almost 2 years they are beat up but fly great! It does help to have an excellent arrow maker make them!

I won't hesitate to order more Sitka, and plan on getting some soon...
