why can't the other side of a left wing secondary feather be used as a right wing fletch? there appears to be enough material to work with. Is this possible? if not why?

They can and have been. There are lots of feathers, and parts of feathers that can be used for fletching. Most only use the primary but the secondary, tail feathers and even some of the smaller wing feathers work well for fletchings. They aren't necessarily as tough as the primaries but work well nun the less. I use them all.     Pat

Thanks pat, last night was the first time I ever stripped some. I was looking at all the waste and start wondering about it.

As long as you remember there is a left wing and right wing in each feather and don't get them mixed up, you'll be OK.    Pat
