My wife had carpal tunnel surgery in both of her rists a couple of years ago. She is able to shoot a compound extremely well, but not often.
She would like to shoot longbow but not having the release affects her rist pretty bad.
Does anybod have any experience or ideas that might help her? I have thought about trying a thumb ring for her but I don't have any experience with that so don't know if that would be better or worse.
any help would be apreciated, BigJim

the thumb release will work best for Her.. the wrist will be just like that of a wheelie release. It will be really noisy, but she could also use a wheelie release as well.

I had carpal tunnel surgery last January.  By mid march I was shooting my recurves with a release aid.  It was noisy, but at least I was shooting again.  By May, I was shooting my normal poundages with fingers again.  The only other suggestion that may work is to get a lighter draw weight and work her way back up to normal poundages...Mike

Did your wife have any physical therapy? Some of the PTs are pretty good, and if she brings her bow they may be able to help.
Your wife's doctor may have done the best surgery possible, but if she is still suffering, you may want to get a second opinion.
If you have already gone this route, has your wife ever experimented with switching from right to left (or left to right) shooting?

Something definetly is wrong here, A few years ago I had CT, I had my right wrist done first, 2 weeks later I won 1st place longbow, the next month I had my left done....No problems shootin....
Get a second opinon and some PT for sure....

Thanks guys. My wifes doctor is one of the best. We chose him because of his reputation. She did have PT after injuring it fishing. The PT told her to quit shooting bow and he too was an archer.

I will get the thumb ring for her to try for now. please keep the advise coming.

I suspect there is more than just CTS going on here. I've had one wrist released and the other should be done but I'm ignoring it. It's current state is about = to the permanent damage on the other side.

Shooting my bow does not irritate either wrist as long as I don't get down less than 9gpp. Then bow shock becomes an issue.

Is she using a finger tip (pad) versus joint hook with her fingers? That could induce more strain on the wrist.
