I recently bought some Carbonwood Vapor 3000's. This is my first attempt at shooting carbons. My bow is a Damon Howatt Hunter 55@28 and I draw right around 27 1/2"-28".  I left them full length and installed a 100gr insert and 100gr FP and began shooting some bareshafts. Arrow flight was really good with no kicking and they hit where you look. Course, this only about 15yds. I tried a 125 and a 145 tip and it was showing weaker with each step. Next I tried just the std insert which weighs around 20 grs and added the 100gr FP. I was shocked that it didn't change arrow flight that much. It did show a little stiffer but not bad.  At this point the 100gr FP and 100gr insert was the best shooting combination. I was really thinking I would be weak with a full length shaft. I wouldn't mind adding about another 50grs up front. Any idea how much shaft I would need to cut. I see alot of guys say that carbons respond quickly to cutting them off.

Also, how do you guys match you FP's with BH's in weight. For instance, if you shoot 250grs up front(100gr insert and 150BH), then how do you match your FP's since they don't make a 150 for 19/64"?

I shoot Carbonwood 3000's and they a closer to 5/16",they may say 19/64 in their specs.5/16" points fit my shafts perfectly. And there are alot of combo's to easliy match up what you need.

I use Carbonwood 3000 with 2 of my bows, 50# Razorback and 52# Hill....
The shafts are cut to 29" BOP, with 100 brass inserts and 125 Points....

I shot my carbonwood 3000's off my 56 and 54# BW SA bows with a draw length of 27in and using a 100gr insert and 125gr tip and cut them at 29in and they bareshafted just right for my setup.  Mark

Thanks for the replies guys. Mine are bareshafting pretty good with 100gr insert and 125 tip with a full length shaft. I am thinking of trying to go with a 145 head and cut down the shaft in 1/2" incriments until I get good flight. I just don't really like shooting such a long arrow when my draw is only 27 1/2". I am wanting to end up with a 29" arrow if it allows.

I'm in the same boat as you with new shafts and getting ready.  I'm going to order 50 gr. brass inserts and 100 gr steel adapters.  We want to use 125 WW for our BH so this allows us to play a bit with adapter weight and triming to get the flight we want.  Looks like about5 275-300 gr up front.
