Need some suggestions on Re-Finishing

I wanted to have the Montana Falcon that I just bought refinished but when I contacted Robertson they said the didn't do refinish work anymore.

Can I get some suggestions from you folks where you think I should go to have this done. Any ideas what the average cost is? Or should I just take it upon myself and give it a go.

If I did it myself it would have to be some kind of rubbed on finish as I don't have the equipment or facilities to do a spray on type. Would the Tru Oil gun stock finish work for this?

Bowdoc would be my first choice if I were looking for a top shelf professional refinishing job. He's a member here so you may be able to PM him. That said, refinishing it yourself can be fun and it's really not that hard. as for a finish, I use minwax spar urathane. It's worked really well for me. Good luck.

Shew, I thought I was all alone in here. Why didn't I think of that I've seen several pic's of Bowdoc's work. But I may have talked myself into doing it (I was all alone and had to talk to someone). :D

We'll see how it goes maybe someone else will talk me out of it.

I have done a couple and used spray Helsman Spar Urathane with success.

Lots of products are available for us non-sprayers. Tru Oil is my first choice if the bow is not worthy of a perfect job done by the bowdoc.

I just refinished an old stayic tip recurve and usde Tru-Oil. It turned out really good and was easy to use. David

I just tried my first 'renew' job on a Hill Big Five (slight poundage reduction, new finish, new stitched leather grip and leather shelf/sideplate) and it came out quite nice, if I do say so. Used multi-coats of Tru-Oil and topped with a coat of paste Minwax. Its not something you do in a day, but if your careful and have some patience its not that hard.

Restoring old bows can be a fun project.Not hard work just a little time consuming.Tru oil is probley one of the better choices for hand rubbed finishes.You can buy it eather in a small bottle or spray can....Make sure to let the tru oil dry completely before applying the next coat.......bowdoc

Thanks for all the advice, I'm still trying to decide what I want to do with this bow. I think I would really like to see it redone by someone of bowdocs obvious abilities.I'll have to do a bit more checking into bowdoc's work load and whether or not he can even get it done for me.
