Talondale

Last night we had a heavy frost, the night before a light frost.  This is the second year running we've had frost while the fruit trees were blooming.  We got about a dozen apples last year and no pears.  The deer weren't coming down the mountain as much last year either (except to eat all the flowers in the yard and my vegetables).   It's too early for the oak blooms so don't think acorn crop will be affected here.  Those of you not under snow, did you get frost too?

Supposed to get right down near freezing tonight...........hope the weatherman is wrong again as is the norm.

Late frost ruined our white oak crop last year and pretty much dried up 1 of my stands that was hung just for a group of white oaks that should have been ideal.

Same here...not sure if my white oaks were blooming yet or not...may be another poor acorn crop again this year. Bad news for me.

Sounds like you had it a little heavier than we did Talondale.  It was a little worse in the bottoms but my place only had light frost with temps not dropping below 32 until 6:30 this morning.  Also I think you may have had more moisture hanging around - I was in Fincastle last night and they were wetter than Sinking Creek.

Tonight is projected to be colder with heavier frost.  I broke out my wife's garden cloth and will be covering my young fruit trees this afternoon.  I was having the same oak tree thougts as you this morning and will try to look at the buds today, but I think we are alright this time.

Frost here this morning too.  Have no fear though, as our fruit trees are no where near blossoming ;-)

Frost here the last two mornings.  I was in north central Arkansas in the Ozark Mtns. Sunday morning and it was 26 degrees.  Pretty cold for turkey hunting for this time of year.  brrrr...
