I don't have access to a digital scale. I just finished some POC arrows that weigh in at 330gr bare shaft. I put 3 coats of stain and about 7 coats of Spar Urethane as a finish sealer coat. How much do you think the stain and Spar add in weight, how many grains to a 30" arrow??

Thanks

That's a tough prediction! I know the spar will add about 8 grs. to my 29.5" woodies per coat.

Thanks snag, how many coats do you end up putting on??? I was hoping to get 5grs per coat but 8ish will do, plus the stain might add a grain or 2 per coat as well!

If your going to continue to make your own arrows, invest in a digital scale, roughly $40. Most accurate scale that I have found and used.

I hear ya Joe, so many things needed to get started building arrows.
What's the make of the digital scale that your talking about for the $40? Are they all pretty much the same?

You can find a good one on **** for under $20 most of the time. Search arrow scale. This is what I use and am pleased.

WESTBROOK

I got a USC-300 from Kustom King for about $25, works real good. Make sure it comes with a calibration weight.

I would invest in a spine tester too. An Ace spine tester in only $90. You wouldnt believe what some people call a matched set of shafts!

One of these works well enough to get you by till you want to make the leap to something better, this is the kind I use and it works well enough.   pocket scale
