What is the best or is it just personal preference for cedar arrow finish! I've put a few coats of stain and just about ready to use some Spar and was wondering what is the best... Satin, Semi-gloss of Gloss finish, any pro or cons??? I was thinking Semi-gloss??? thanks!

If you're going to use them for hunting, satin.  Can always knock off the shine with a little steel wool as well.

Jwilliam

I usually use gloss poly on my arrows. Then as Orion said, I steel wool the shafts I am going to use for hunting.

Gloss finishes are tougher and more water resistant.  They are all I use.  I've never had the slightest hint that it might have spooked anything.

I use a gloss finish then knock the gloss down with either steel wool or a satin top coat. dino

The gloss finishes are tougher.  I do it just like dino.

Thanks guys! I ended up with Semi Gloss, we'll see how that works out? I'm hoping this will seal them up pretty good, if not I'll seal the rest of them with gloss. I'm only testing out one arrow to get it in tune before I make up the rest.

anyone use spray on laquer by rustoleum?

Jwilliam

Joe,
You should be fine with Semi Gloss. I did a couple dozen shafts in Semi Gloss, before switching to Gloss finish. And they held up just fine. I only switched to Gloss because I was told that it was a tougher and more water resistant finish.
