Hello fellow tradgangers,
I am a german bowhunter(which is illegal here in Germany) and will spend 3 month in the US from April to June. I will hunt for turkeys in april and the start of may, but look for other possibilities as well. I found out that it is allowed to hunt hogs year round in GA(private land only) and in AL (everywhere?). I am interested in contacts with some landowners who want to thin the hog population on their land a bit. I am not really interested in paid hunting, because money starts to destroy our sport and takes the fun out of it. I just need a small space to set up my kifaru tipi and can hunt from there. I have a foldable canoe as well to access hunting places through water. I hope to get some contacts and make some new friends in trad bowhunting...
Thank you
Roland

Check with some of the Alabama National forests.I live in North Alabama near the Bankhead National forest. It is legal to hunt hogs in the national forest all year but not inside the management area of the forest. There are some hogs here but I think you would find more farther south.

I don't know anything about Georgia but it wouldn't hurt to check with their national forests also.

If you call around and find some legal places to hunt ask their game biologist about the estimated populations. That would give you the best chance on public land. They will also be glad to point out some good areas.

Ok,it seems that in Georgia only Fort Stewart is open year round for hogs. Is there a possibility to camp nearby? AL seems to be closed on all the WMA either.

Roland, you can hunt hogs on public land in GA during any hunting season. Turkey season is open March 22-May15 here so that should cover some of the time here. I'd be happy to show you great areas to camp in beautiful settings where you can hunt hogs here in North GA. The terrain is difficult, but adds to the ambience of the hunt, imho. You will need a GA license and WMA stamp...so you might as well plan on hunting turkey while you are here too.

Your odds for hogs are better the more south you travel in GA, but if you have that much time, you might enjoy seeing some different country here in N GA. I might also be able to connect you with some other contacts for South GA hunting. PM or Email me for further contact info.

Alabama WMA is closed to hogs except during a legal season with legal weapons for that game. The National forest is a different story. The WMA is inside the National Forest but not all the National Forest is WMA.
