ok i relize that the sammick will not be equal to the black widow, but is it even close? OR JUST NOT WORTH MESSING WITH ?

Samick Hawkeye is a good honest bow for the dollar . Question is , is the Widow near 3 times the bow for the Dollar . Bows are a personal thing and I try not too put much value on pretty wood and finishes but on how they point and shoot and weigh that up against price . regards Jacko

I shot both side by side a few years ago.
3 times better,not even close.
The Samick shot just as well as the Widow.

My first really "nice" trad bow a couple years ago was a Samick Hawkeye, I shot it along side a BW that a friend had. While the Black widow DID shoot better it wasnt that much better to justify the 3 times the price thing. JMHO

If someone was going to give you either as a gift, which would you choose?

i just recintly bought a samick verna longbow, and love it! i would think that the hawkeye is probably a great bow as well.
the samick bows dont get enough credit for there quality. yeah they're made in korea, but they shoot terrific, and look pretty good as well.
for the price, i had to try them. i figured that if it came in and didnt feel good i would just return it.

im guessing that you are new to traditional archery,(like myself). my advice to you would be buy the samick, shoot it see how you like it.
if in the next year of two you find that you want to take it to the next level, than buy all means get the widow.
heck you may find that you dont like  the mass of that style riser. and in that case you'll know what to stay away from.

as for myself, im gonna shoot this samick for maybe a year or two, and then stay with this style bow, only a dryad, horne, or a turkey creek. this way i can support the bowyers on this site.

I would buy the Widow.
It is not really a matter of being three times as good or costing three times as much.If that were the case everyone here would just own an old Bear or Pearson.

You could test any old bow and there is not a trad bow in the world that is three times as fast or three times as accurate.

In 20 years most likely the Widow will be worth just as much as you paid for it.I doubt you could say the same for the Samick.

Chris Wilson

I've shot both and there is a difference in overall feel and performance, though the overall difference is small.  If performance was the only basis for price, then no the bw probably isn't worth 3 times what you'd pay for the hawkeye, but performance isn't the only issue.  The BW is definately 3 times, or more, better in overall quality as far as fit and finish is concerned. Plus, you won't find many that'll match BW for warranty and customer service.  With that in mind, Randy's right, the BW will hold it's value much longer than the Samick will.

We really need to understand that they are two different bows that just look alike.  The Samick is affordable to many now when the Black Widow is not.  The quality is good enough to keep as a go to bow as well, it's just not the same aesthetically nor does it have the same amount of work put into it as the BW.  That should be  no-brainer.

The Samick bows can be a Godsend to those who want to participate with a good bow but don't have the money to spend as some here who tend to buy a new bow every six months.

Keeping things in perspective, the Hawkeye is a very good bow, especially for the money.  I have a Verna that will shoot with any 64" longbow around....it isn't as finely finished of course, and it isn't laden with cocobola and yew.  It is a functional weapon that will probably last a lifetime.

It's always good to compare values, but let's make sure we aren't being condescending just because we have an allegiance to a particular brand.  There's usually room in one's bow room for all ilks.

Mr.Chuck

The Samick is a working man's bow dollar for dollar.  And some cases it looks as good.  The BW is only better in one's "mind's eye".  Simply put, they both toss an arrow straight ahead, but the accuracy and feel is in the eye and mind of the beholder!

I got a Samick longbow but have no idea what model it is?  How can I tell?
