Correct spine for cedars.

I have a hard time with spine selection. Especially when it comes to wood. I'm going to be shooting a 125 grain tip and want to know what spine range should I select. I'm shooting 26.5'' at 52 lbs. What spine range would be a good starting point. I was thinking 55-60. But I would appreciate your experienced input.

Is your bow cut to center?

Keep in mind that the spine standard it figured at 28" and the spine will stiffen by 5# for every inch less than 28". As Biorn said the depth of shelf will be a deciding factor as well as the length you decide to cut the arrow to back of point. If the bow is less than center then only use the arrow length for spine. If its cut too center add 5#, if its past center add 10-15#.

I shoot a recurve that is cut to center and can go up as high as 30# over and get good arrow flight. It is 55#@28" and I shoot some 80-85# POCs.  It depends on your bow also.  What is your poundage, bow type, your draw length?

You are correct, once you get to the minimum spine needed you can go way over spine. I have one client that is shooting 120# spine out of a 74# bow that is cut past center and they fly like darts.

Most likely that will be a bit stiff if you cut your arrows an inch past your draw length.  Leave 'em long and cut back till you get good arrow flight...Van
