Hey guys,
I see that there is a pretty spectacular deal goin on with the Dryad bow blanks... (you even get the DVD when you buy a blank!) This sounds like a good project for the winter, but I have ZERO experience and don't want to get in over my head.
Some input from people who have built them or any advice for a wannabe just starting out would be welcome.

-Also, I didn't see how long of a bow you can make...?

Ray,

We've had a bunch of first timers build our blanks with success.   The DVD will guide you through and with the winter to do it, you'll have the patience necessary to do the job right.

I'm sure one of the 400 or so folks that have built them will be on shortly.

I'm looking forward to some of these responses. That would be a great project for winter.

I'm shooting one now that I built.  I had built several board bows before, so I wasn't a total newbie.  But the DVD taught me many things I didn't know, and I just followed its instructions.

Bow shoots great.

Waitin on mine now.I was sent the DvD early,so ive had a chance to watch it numerous times.I have no Excuses, but to do it right now.LOLI also learned a few neet tricks as well from the DVD.
Target archery is seeing how far away you can get and still hit the bull's eye. Bowhunting is seeing how close you can get and never miss your mark.

When there isnt any thing good on Tv,which is most the time,i watch the Dryad DVD.

I've finished one and it was my first attempt at any kind of bow building. The DVD was a great help as well as the tradgang family. At any time you hit a hitch just take a few pictures and post here. You will get plenty of good advice to help you get through the trial. I'm shooting about 51# @ 28 and I feel that I've learned enough that the next one will be much better. As they say "just gett'r done".
Slow down and enjoy life.  It's not only the scenery you
miss by going too fast - you also miss the sense of where
you are going and why.

I would recommend you watch the dvd at least a couple of times prior to taking out your bow building tools. Prior to building my Dryad bow, I had 3 bows explode on me. The main reason for that was lack of patience. Take it slow and enjoy the journey. Never never never draw your bow past your intended draw weight.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. The folks here at TradGang are always willing to help.

I do remember one tip that was very helpful. Ferret had wrapped the bamboo where the tip overlays meet the boo. This is to protect the bamboo while shaping your overlays. I used 3 layers of masking tape. This saved me from damaging the bamboo.

I look forward to following your progress on your bow this winter. Be sure to post some pictures.

Some pics of completed bows would be very cool...  Do you think that I could make a bow drawing 31-32"???  How long are the blanks?
Lets see 'em for a little inspiration

Good lookin bows!!  My son and I are going to make a couple and are waiting for the blanks. We've watched the DVD and are hot to get going,in a patient way.

I'm gonna help a young man finish his, really looking forward to it.
Slim, the blank I got in had the lenght (66") on it.

Sure can recomend the Dryad family for great service, don't come any better.

When you get your blank, lay the riser in your hand and tap a limb with your finger. The wood is alive   :readit:

WE can build one out to 68" (66 ntn) that will handle your long draw.
