I was able to get to go hunting today and decided to make a day of it. Took my lunch and stayed all day. It has been pretty hot here for November, mid 80's during the day and beginning to get dry because of lack of rain. The trees and brush are beginning to go dormant for the comming winter which allows the water in the river to rise. I noticed it has gained some since last time I was able to come out.

I tried to put a stalk on these Barbadoe but being so dry it sounded like walking on corn flakes. Spooked them before I could close the distance.

Here are a few rubs beginning to show up in regularity very close to one of my tree stands.

And finally, here are a few deer I saw from one of my tree stands this evening. It is in a liveoak about 15' up. As you can see from the pictures of the rubs it is quite dense. There is a clearing on the side of the tree I have my stand and I have cleared a few shooting lanes through the branches of the liveoak.

If this one would have given me an open shot before leaving I would have attempted to take him.

And this one caught me moving slightly before leaving. I was trying to get a picture of the other deer when I realized he was watching. Let me get this pose before deciding to vacate.

Although I didn't take anything today, it was one of the most rewarding I have enjoyed in quite awhile. May your days afield be as rewarding.

Fantastical pics.A sweet buck and Id love to hunt those free ranging barbado sheep.Pretty wary are they? They look like bigguns.

Straitshot

herkimerhunter,

Yes they are wary. There are always lots of eyes to try and avoid since they are almost always in small herds. This ranch started with 15 head about 15 years ago and now there are several hundred head. No one knows for sure how many. Stalking and hunting them is a favorite past time when not hunting the deer. Here is a picture of one I took last year. I have taken two this year very close to the size of this one. There are some that are larger but they are hard to locate.

Louis, It was almost as hot up here, mid 70's.
It's keeping most deer movement at night. It's suppose to cool off next week.

Thanks for the pics
