River cane arrow size

I'm seeing a few different opinions on the recommended size. What are some of your opinions? And my main question, when you say I size at what point on the arrow are you measuring? Nock end? Middle? Point end?

Oh and I'm shooting 50-60 lb modern bows of that makes any significant difference in the size I should be trying to make them.

I cut my hill cane arrows so the finished 30" arrow is about 3/8" at the point and 5/16" at the nock. These were for my 56#@26". They usually come out to about 600 gr with 125 gr. heads.
Use a 3/8" open end wrench as a gauge when you collect them. Cut the raw cane at about 36". This way you can find the proper spine somewhere in the cane before cutting to length.
Is your cane actually river cane? I find river cane to have pretty pronounced nodes. It makes a pretty good arrow but hill cane or switch cane make the best arrows from our native canes.
River cane grows to about 15' tall with about 3/4" diameter. Switch cane and hill cane grow to about 6' to 7' tall and maybe 1/2" in diameter at the butt.

Good deal thank you, yeah I'm about 99% sure it's river cane.i don't know if I have ever payed to attention and look for the other species but I will definitely keep my eyes open for it.
