DHOWARD

A year ago purchased a new 58" 48# @ 28" Thunderchild from Big Jim @ the Pre-Spring Arrow Fling for my birthday.  I have not invested a ton of time or money in finding the perfect arrow for this bow but its apparent the GT Trad 500's or 400's are not the answer.  The best results have been with the GT 400's cut to 29.5" with 3) 5" feathers and a total of 225 including the insert on the front.  I draw the bow to 28" if your wondering.  I have thought that I might need to go to a smaller diameter shaft like a Easton Axis to get the results that I'm looking for.  Please let me know what has worked for you before I sell this work of art and regret it.

By the way Big Jim's is an A+++ Company to work with.

Thanks,

Dammion H.

What kind of weight did you try with the 500 spine?

Frenchymanny

I have perfect flight with a GT trad 55 75 (400 spine I believe) with a 100grs insert and a 300grs head, cut at 28". I draw 27" for 62#.

This goes for 3 feathers  of 5" or 4X4" feather

I've tried 100gr point with the standard GT inserts to 225gr point with 100gr GT inserts and everything in the middle.  I know that I do not have the best shooting form in the world, but I did not have this issue getting my Bob Lee dialed in.  I was told that the smaller diameter shaft would help me achieve a more true center shot and be easier to tune.

I'm using 2016 aluminum cut to 30" with 125gr as well as FMJ .400 cut to 30" with a 75gr insert and 175gr point. Both fly well, but there is a big difference in arrow weight. It all depends on the type of hunting or shooting I'm doing.

I have a 56" 44# TC that I draw to 28". It seems to like 15/35 (600 spine) GT's, 29.5", standard insert, 150 grain point. Maybe give Jim a call and see what he recommends.

Have you bareshafted it? How's it shooting? a 400 spine cut to 29" is a stiff arrow , what's the bow doing that you don't like?

I suspect your arrows are too stiff. First off, it sounds like you are cutting them off too short and using point weight to tune...seldom ever works out properly. Your Bob lee is also likely cut past center and will likely shoot a stiffer arrow.

I would try a full length (32") 500 spine with 200 g up front to start. You may be able to trim down from there. It is also possible that you could shoot a 29" 600 spine also. The 400 is not the answer.

good luck, BigJim

I just try to live my life in a way that would have made my father proud.

ABS "Sitka", 29", 5" Shield 3-Fletch helical and 200g up front. A Dart.

Bet you could get some 15/35 or now called 600 spine gold tips leave them full length start with 100 grain tip then work up from there my guess is you won't have to cut them at all leave your shelf stock and instead of cutting arrows play with shelf side plate thickness to tune just about any point you want

I just received a new (to me) 58" TC that is about 45# @ 28".  CE Heritage 150's cut to 29" with 165 grains up front and they fly like darts.  I can't believe how accurate this bow is for me.

I have a 58" thunderchild at 54#@28". I shoot the GT 500's with a 100 grn insert and 150 grn point. its cut to 28 7/8".

Cyclic-Rivers

I agree with the above posters. You're too stiff.
I shoot a 55 lb thunderchild 56"
My arrows are GT blems 55/75 cut to 29 3/4 with 225 grain points and standard insert.

I also shoot other 400 spined shafts cut between 29 1/2 to 29 3/4 with 250 up front. The arrows do their job if I do mine.

Good luck with your tuning.
