Ive been away for away, getting back into traditional hunting. I have purchased but not received yet a A&H ACS CX 45@28" that I draw to 29 1/4". Bow is 64" long. I want to use some 125 gr Heads I have, with 100 insert. Can anyone give me a starting point for arrow spine in both carbon and aluminum. I know I can cut a longer shaft to fine tune, just looking at making some up ahead of time while waiting for bow to arrive.
Thanks, Gary

500 spine for the carbons,470 on the Easton 6mm FMJ.I do not shoot aluminum so no help there.

I had a A&H longbow once,fastest longbow I have ever shot.

Welcome back Gary!

thanks for the help, any thoughts on arrow length ? Did you experience the need for a stiffer arrow ?

I have a couple of ACSs, including a 62-inch, 45#.  I shoot .500 Easton Axis cut to 29 BOP for my 28 inch draw with about 250 up front.

.500s should work for you nicely.  Cut one to 30 1/4 or so and see how it shoots with the components you want up front.

I know that those bows GENERALLY require a stiffer arrow.  I would bet that a 500 would work.  But a also bet that a 2018 aluminum cut to 30 with 145 grains up front would fly good as well.

You guys are just like I remembered...GREAT
Do you think I should stay with 10gpp or ?

huntingarcher

My draw is 29 and I usually end up with 30 down to 29 1/2" with most carbons. The 6mm FMJ is usually a little longer mainly cause I will shoot a lighter weight head with those. They will get heavy fast.I have always ended up very close to the 10gpp with all my bows and have had great results on deer and hogs.Never been one to shoot a really heavy arrow.

I second the 500 carbon and about a 2018 aluminum. I believe those are right around 470 deflection. A nice heavy arrow to.

Cyclic-Rivers

Welcome back Gary. I shoot Orion's arrow set up out of my 45 lb bows.  I use a 100 grain insert and a 150 grain point. Sometimes I cheat and just use a 250 grain point and skip the insert.  I shoot the gold tip blems.  Very economical.

Charlie, I might even pull the trigger on a new thunderchild !

Has anyone used a dynamic spine calculator ? I never have good luck with it. I ran my numbers on 3rivers, it shows arrow is about 20# under spined
