I need to find out when and where  the Real Thing shoot and the La Trad Bowmen shoots are.  Never been to any trad events, but would like to try it out.  What all is typically involved in these shoots?

the two LTB shoots are around Alexandria.  The Real Things is held in Baton Rouge.  Both are good shoots.  The Real things is very swampy.  If it rains, it will be wet and MUDDY!

The LTB shoots; one is held at CENLA Bowbenders right inside of Ball, LA.  The Sterling Herald (Longbow State Championship) is held at a boy scout camp.

Both are 2 day events and family friendly, but the one in Ball doesn't have any where to stay.  The one at the boy scout camp has some 4 single bed cabins you can rent and stay in for $40 per night.  If you split it, it's $10 per bed.  This one is VERY kid friendly!

There will be a lot of shooting.  Each place you will be able to shoot all the rounds you want.  The one is Ball is more of a fun shoot.  Shoot all you want and turn in your best card.  The one at the Boy scout camp is a "championship" meaning you will only get one (your first) round for scoring with each bow.  The classes here will be Longbow, Modern LB, Rec, Modern Rec.  All that "modern" means is you'll be shooting a modern arrow.  No elevated rests, no sights, finger must always be in contact with the arrow( no string walking, etc).

there will be several novelty shoots at each event, though we don't know what they are yet.

Thanks Daniel.  I may see if I can make one this year.

Oh yeah, is this 3D, or more of a field archery style shoot?  I'm crap on 3D, but I'm even worse on round targets.

Its 3D, laid back fun times. Walk a trail until you come to a stake, find the target and shoot. Then on to the next target. Score keeping is not mandatory. You don't have to turn in a score card if you don't want to. Great practice

Matt,

I went for years without ever going to a 3D shoot, most happened on Sundays when I was stationed at LRAFB and my Sundays were full (church, still is).

But a few years back a good buddy Kirk (Possumhead) got me to go to the Howard Hill shoot that was a 3 day event involving camping.

The stipulation was we would find somewhere to attend a church service.

I never had so much fun in my life shooting a bow!

I and Kirk and Tommy (Pascagoula Archer) try to make an event at least once a year if not more.

If you attend once at a good family friendly shoot I think you'd be hooked   :readit:

Here a video from lasts year Howard Hill Classic with a couple of the guys posting on this thread acting as somebodies    :biglaugh:

Give me a date and a location and well see if I and the others can make it happen.  Sounds like a lot of fun.

Besides I hear you have no competition there   :biglaugh:

The Real Things is almost always in the last weekend of April and the next weekend is the Sterling Herrald(I know i misspelled it).

We have done services at each one.

You know, a thought is, if it's such a priority to be in a service, why don't you lead one?  IF they don't have one, you make it!

It makes me think of the parable in Matthew 9,
"35And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. 36When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest."
"Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD And whose trust is the LORD. Jeremiah 17:7

"There is a way which seems right to a man,
But its end is the way of death."  Proverbs 14:12

Your right Daniel and I have thought about it in the past, but the shoots I now attend do have men that have stepped up to do so.

Matt Steed at the Tannehill shoots does an excellence job of preaching the word of God!

Maybe Tommy and me and Kirk if we can drag him along can make the shoot.
Everything I have and have become is due to the Lord and his great mercy.
