Hit the farm tonight about 5:00 in hopes of picking up another doe. Walking to my stand of choice and glassing the field, I see a few does already underneath it. So I pick a different stand on a different field edge. I walk to the other stand, climb and pull my bow up. As I'm putting my safety belt on, I see a nice little 6 and a small doe slip out the back door. Alrighty, maybe I was just a little late getting in the stand tonight.

Then I hear the combine start up and the farmer is harvesting the field I'm on. He starts at my edge so all the deer are going to be pushed to the other side of the field.

I have a feeling it's going to be one of those nights...

So I climb down and walk to the other side of the farm. As I hit the field edge I have 3 does about 100 yards out. I start in stealth mode for a stalk.

Now I'm not the littlest guy in the world and everytime I start stalking I think of a quote from  a Pope and Young story. "White man walk much and look little". I get about 30 yards in 20 minutes. I'm running out of daylight. At this rate I might get to the does tomorrow night before sunset!

I stop the stalk and dump into a little swamp hoping to get a doe heading to the field for some fresh cut corn. I'm crouched under a little pin oak for the last 10 minutes of shooting time.

I hear something coming through the swamp from the field edge. Why it's a nice 8 pt buck about 2.5  years old with really high set of antlers. He scent checks a bunch of grass in the swamp about 15 yards from me. Then he rolls in the swamp and rubs his head on the grass clump. I never saw that before...

After about 5 minutes of grunting he starts walking my way. 10 yards, 5 yards, 3 yards all with his head down.

When he's about to bump into my arrow on my rest, I raise up about 6 inches out my crouch and give him a "FFFFTTTTT". I go back into my crouch.

He jumps about 3 yards and stands directly broadside for about 30 seconds. He's looking at either side of the tree I'm crouched in front of thinking what the hell was that! Kind of swinging his head back and forth like a lab puppy. Then he walks off slowly like nothing happened.

I think to myself - "Yea, you've been snort weezed".

Ah, the pleasures of doe hunting off the ground. I filled my buck tag earlier in the month  :)
