I have two bows with the bowbolt and on both of them it won't close or lock up all the way ? Just wondering if anybody else has this problem.

Dan, get yourself a coupla those big pipe wrenches you have on site and turn it nice and tight.  That should do it !

The inconsistency of the bow bolt is one of the reasons why I went to the sleve TD system

Have they closed/lined up correctly in the past?
If so, I'm guessing the threads have gotten gunked up with something,  probably the female portion down inside the bow??
Or the mating surfaces have somehow swelled or gotten built up with dirt.  It may be as simple as giving the mating surfaces a super light sanding and then do a trial and error check until it tightens.  Want to be super careful though, don't want to end up with a loose/sloppy fit.

I would check those things and if that doesn't work, give Craig Warren a call (207-926-4133),  he invented the system.

The only used bow purchased here that has failed is a shrew bow bolt.

There is some sort of debris in the locking threads. Could be as small and soft as a tag thread from a shirt to a smudge of waxy dirt. ALL threads and mating surfaces should be CLEAN and DRY and kept that way. Only other explanation would be damage to the threads themselves.

Every thing was clean . And I think the pads swelled up a bit . Yep I went on the bowbolt site and Craig said to sand the pads  down alittle.  I'll try it  . Thanks

Just a quick question what was the pad material on your bow?

A similar problem on a bow several years ago and by muscling it into place we were able to shoot it okay.
I had another bow that I had no trouble with at my 28.5" draw but I sold it to a friend w/ a 30+" draw and it hatched on him at full draw. This was before everyone figured out that the bow-bolt should be set in a phenolic material to handle the stress.
It's an okay system but has a few quirks and I'm not a big fan. IMO the "locket-socket" type of TD system that BW, Big Jim, A&H, and others use is a better way to go.

I have had at least 8 bows with the bow bolt and never had a problem. Most of them were Gregg Coffey bows.

I would be curious about that too.  "Swelling up" is usually associated with moisture increasing.  What will happen if the "swelling" goes away?  Will it twist too far or have a gap?

Dan bree

Dave don't know what the pads are made of .looks like some sort of plastic . As far as swelling up a bit both bows came from Montana . Dryer there than in New Jersey .but I don't think that made a difference
