Good evening, I just harvested a really nice cottonmouth and I'm curious if anyone has one I could match it with?

..or if anyone knows where I could get one skin or trade for something

Westkyhunter

I've got a nice one myself already dried. It's different than most though its got a lot of lighter colors in it. I haven't seen another one like it. Is yours dark in color?

Michael Arnette

Mine is fairly dark but definitely has pattern

Hi Mike, are you looking to back a bow with it? I had one for about 6 years that I held onto, it was a wide long skin.  When I had my Centaur made I sent that one skin to Jim and he did a wonderful job of backing my bow with it. One skin, and the bow looks great!

If big enough you can split the skin down the center and add a half to each side. Clint Anders(scrub buck, osage outlaw) just posted a selfbow with one skin, half on each limb.

I was considering that too I don't think it is quite long enough to get both recurve limbs but maybe doing a partial length on each limb would work.

Pat B

Splitting it lengthwise will give you 2 equal lengths, one for each limb. Some skins like timber rattlers and water moccasin lend themselves to doing this.

Ive done several bows with cottonmouth skins.  Definitely a cool pattern.

Jim at Centaur does a great job and his finish is tougher then any.  Did some copperhead skins for me.
