I am currently shooting 5 inch fletching with a couple of Howard Hill bows I have but want to try 5 1/2 inch, would that be pushing the limits with the narrow shelf on HH bows?

If the fletches are the same height I can not see a difference. Only issue I had was I ran a 6 1/2" brace height. The feathers were almost on the rest. I just did not like that when I drew the bow.

Fletcher

Plenty of Hill shooters using 5 1/2 inch fletch, Ken.  Give it a shot.  Need a few feathers?

running 2 of the HH's at 7 inch brace, I know that sounds high but have tinkered on and off for 2 weeks and its the sweet spout for both. good on feathers but THANK YOU for the offer!

My HHA Robin Hood shoots fine with 2 inch Blazer vanes...not sure why you would even consider 5 1/2 inch fletching unless your dynamic spine is way off

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

using 300 grain grain Big Jim 3 blades and want a little more stability so wanted to try 5 1/2 fletch.

Dave, it sounds like your shooting ability would make me very jealous! I am more than capable of dropping the string badly, and appreciate the help and insurance the big feathers give.

I use high backed 5 1/2s and a low brace height.  Not a problem!

I shoot my Hills at 7" brace height and it works just fine.  I always shoot 5 1/2" feathers.

No sweat, GI. Hills are pretty forgiving of various fletchings, in my experience. I have shot flu flus, 5 1/2 inch, 5 inch and currently 4 inch with good flight. Go for it.

Not a problem. I have shot them, but I usually use 5" feathers as they are more readily available locally. Hill bows generally are not picky.

5 1/2" out of all Hill style bows.
5 3/4"-6" brace height.

Overspined

Spine is most important for feather clearance. Won't matter what feathers with correct spine for the arrow combo.

I hear a fair number of guys shooting low brace but mine stay at 6 1/2".  Actually I don't measure anymore, just set it slightly  above fistmele. I find low brace messes up my shooting consistency.

ChuckC

I use them all the time with no problem except, as stated above, it gets close with a low brace height.  Even that is no real issue.

Longtoke

if you are worried about them being too close with a low brace height then you could try 4 fletch with 4 inch feathers.   only 1/2 inch less fletching than 3 5 1/2 inch fletch
