Bear Quest 10 will be my first bear hunt and I'm just curious to what others have found to be favorable conditions for bear movement......

What say you?

Leaving in 13 days    :campfire:

PS, Ill be hunting everyday despite the conditions, just curious is all   :goldtooth:

I can't say what the best weather is but I know it isn't 20 - 40 Deg. F every day you hunt with snow still on the ground.  I've gone on 2 bear hunts (one in Manitoba and one in Idaho) and have only seen a total of 2 bears; one on each hunt.  That being said, I would prefer to take my Thermacell and fight mosquitos and see some bears than to not worry about mosquitos and see nothing.  Hope this helps.

High winds and or driving rain can hurt you but the rest of the time should be good.If the rut is on,don't shoot any sows that come on with out cubs. There should be a boar following, sooner or later.Good luck.

Whip

Warm, calm, and dry.
Slight breeze from the bait to you.  (Well, maybe not quite at you or you're going to be smelling Tom's fish stink bait all night      :scared: )

Rain and wind aren't preferable, but the only thing that would keep me out of the stand would be lightning.

Good luck on the hunt!!

I've had great success right after a shower, but not a driving rain

If it just rained keep in mind that everything will be quieter for you and the Bears. I've had bears come into bait on any different kind of weather and they don't seem to bother about staying out of one kind or the other. Good luck and post plenty of pics!!!

It was a warm Blue Bird of a day that I shot mine.

How warm do you think it was Ron?

I was in a long-sleeved "T" shirt at 4:30 pm on stand, shot the bear at 7:40 pm and no intention of putting anything on. At 8:15 we were on the track and blood, found him in about 15 minutes and back to camp at 9 pm, still no need for even a sweater, had to be in the high 70's.......It was warm the whole week......but go ready for anything, heck up there it could snow!!

At BQ Tom will tell you the hotter it gets the more the bears move.

But stalking out west in BC and Alberta weather doesn't matter.  The rut is going on right now and you can see bears anytime.  That last few hours before dark is crazy time though.

Anything other than a downpour.  Wounded a big boar two seasons ago that came in 40 minutes before a thunderstorm.  Thunderstorms don't help with bloodtrailing either.

Skeeters seem to be a good thing (sort of). Bring lots of Thermacell extra wafers and butane refills.

If you're heading to Bear Quest Tom will tell you the hotter and buggier the better. Based on my times up there I'd agree.
