I have a hybrid longbow that draws 45# at my length and a recurve that's a pound heavier at my draw. The recurve is notably faster. I have a 26&1/4" draw. On the hybrid, I shoot 35/55 GT traditionals that are 28&1/4" long with 175 grain up front and they fly great. Total weight is right around 440 grain. Now with my new recurve, I had to drop 25 grain off the front to get good flight. I don't care too much about arrow length. Do you think I could jump to 55/75's and add enough weight up front to get them to fly from the recurve?

Bladepeek

I think the answer is definitely yes, but we're talking a lot of weight and I don't think you will be able to cut them down.

I shoot both 1535s and 3555s out of my mid-40 weight bows (175gr points on the 1535s and 200gr on the 3555s) but they are 1 3/4" longer than yours. I have a heavy arrow made up that is a FULL LENGTH 32" 5575 with a total of 285gr up front that flies very nicely.

Thanks bladepeek, I don't have a very good release, so that certainly doesn't help me. I'm concerned because I'm getting really close to the 9 grains per pound.

Orion

Cut an inch off your current arrows (about 9 grains) and add 50 grains of point weight. That should do the trick.

thanks orion. i never thought of trying that

I shoot a similar arrow config. and just tried that experiment to create an intentional heavier hunting arrow with poor results(full length .400's with 100 gr. inserts and up 175-300 gr. points).  There was a point in the testing that I could have made a workable combination, but broadhead weight was a factor that was "non-negotiable".  I'd definitely go Orion's route, but depending on the weight target you're looking for I'd only cut 1/4" at a time. I was able to cut just the 1/4", step up a 50 gr. brass insert and increase point weight by 25 gr.

SCATTERSHOT

Could you build up the sideplate on the recurve to accommodate your present arrows?

What scattershot said. What is the center cut of both bows? There's decent odds that your recurve is close to, at, or past center cut. You can build out the sideplate to get them both shooting the same arrow?

Only tuning will tell you the exact amount to sut off and the exact amount of weight to add, but this is what I would do.

What SCATTERSHOT and Cavscout9753 suggest is also a viable alternative. The advantage to this would be that you would have the exact same arrow for both bows.

I can tell you that I have  45# SK recurve and I tuned it with GT Traditional with 175 lb up front and they are perfect. My arrows are 30". You might be a little stiff it you are truly pulling 45lbs. That being said there are a lot of other variables such as how is your shelve cut just to mention one.
What gives me wings? Flying with my arrows over and over again. And never giving up...For giving up means not believing...
