I cannot accurately shoot this longbow ,I had always thought Longbows are easier to shoot ,I cannot shoot as accurate as I can with my old Bear Kodiak ,now both were yardsale bows so maybe it doesn't fit like  they should, both real good shape my recurve I can stack arrows but not the longbow .

It may be a tuning issue.  Have you bare shaft tuned? Also, a longbow takes different form, low heal, firm grip, slight cant, swing draw.

Haven't bare shafted ,I will try the grip changes.

You don't have to swing draw fwiw. Do pay attention to the grip. Concentrate the force through the palm, not the web. Tune arrows correctly.

The first thing. Make sure your bow and arrow are properly tuned. Bare shaft testing is a great way to start. Take your time and really concentrate. I have a Ferguson Safari built by Byron. The Bear Royal Safari should be a great bow also. I have heard a lot of positive reviews on them.

I found the same thing.  I love the look and feel of a longbow but I shoot a recurve a lot better.  I don't fight it and shoot a curve.

as what mike just posted, most find the longbow somewhat less consistent to shoot.  that just demonstrates that both recurves and longbows need to be approached a bit differently with regards to setup, arrow selection, and overall shooting form. there are subtle differences 'tween the two trad bow styles that need to be considered.  most who have stuck with a longbow and learned to appreciate its inherent forgiving stability have stuck with the straight stick over the curved one.

Among my longbows is a very nice recurve, if I shoot it with the same pressure points as i do my longbows the arrows will be all over the place.  Even my different longbow grips need to be considered and slight adjustments need to be made.  There also can be a difference in how one points a pistol grip versus a straight grip with a slightly bent bow arm, a different muscle balance comes into play.  If I shoot my recurve with a glove, at times, I give the bow a longbow nudge, an improper and involuntary reaction.  I have found if I have been shooting the recurve a lot, I do similar involuntary things when I go back to my longbows, that would make the recurve happy and make the longbows angry.

Heh, no. Longbows are not easier. For me anyway!

[QB] Exactly what Wingnut said.  I have tried to shoot longbows quite s few times.  Over the years I have bought seven longbows of various manufacturers- but all recognizable as well known bows.

A couple of them I got to the point where I felt ok with them, but always shot my favorite recurve better.

Maybe if I had no reference or bench mark to refer to, things would have been different.

But you know, I still have a nice longbow hanging on the rack...
There is an undeniable allure to a longbow.
