I have had a Bitzenburger for a lot of years and was wondering how can I get more of a twist in my feathers. I have seen others with a lot more twist on their arrows than I can get out of mine. I have a left wing clamp and use tru flight left wing feathers. Is there a different clamp or is there a different jig they are using all together? I appreciate any help    :dunno:

Thanks
Steve

There are two adjustment nobs on the Bitz.  By turning the top one to the left and the bottom one to the right, you can get a lot of helical.

Put a feather in the jig as you adjust it to make sure that it will touch along the entire feather length.  That is what usually limits how much helical you can put on an arrow.  Difficult to get as much helical on a skinny shaft as on a thicker one.

Be sure you have a left wing clamp and a left wing nock accepter nob.

I have Bitz and JoJan fletchers in both LW and RW.I put the feathers on where they have the best contact with the shaft. And the helical that the clamp puts in is the best you can do.It always looks like RW feathers have more helical then LW.Probably a optical elusion? Also the diameter of the shaft can affect the amount of helical.Haven't heard of a clamp that puts more helical in.Most likely those arrows you talked about was done with a different brand of fletcher?

Thanks guys I do use Eastn axis shafts and I have the nobs adjusted so the feather is making good contact with the whole shaft. Maybe they are using a different fletching jig. I thought maybe I was missing something. I like the look of the real aggressive twist, not that it's any better or makes a arrow fly better I just like the looks of it.

Sounds like to you have straight clamps.  You can buy add'l clamps for your gig with helical.

You can get quite a bit of twist by adjusting the top and bottom:

Bitzenburger makes a Helical and Straight Clamp for their left and right Model Tm NOCK Index stamped with an "L" or "R".  If yours has a straight clamp and the Nock Index stamped S on the thumb knob, you can buy a left Helical and Nock index "L".  I like the feather offset the same amount on the front and rear, which is done with the adjustments at the top and bottom.  Here is a copy of their instruction.

Clamps and nock indexes can be had in the classified at times and on the big auction (eb**), just search. Sponsors also carry them.

Just making sure.... you   do   have a Helical clamp, don't you ?  As above, they make a left helical, a right helical and a straight clamp.  The straight can be offset and the feathers will naturally form some amount of helical twist.  Using the helical clamp, you can make a pretty fair amount of twist, bearing in mind, using carbons, you don't have quite as much leeway on adjustment as with those woodies.

Your issue may be the skinny shafts. I use the same shafts for hunting. When I fletched them I had to adjust for best feather placement. They did not have the same twist as on fatter shafts. I do have the updated nock receiver as well.

Steve Jr

RonP that's what I'm looking for I have a left clamp and the nock index is marked L so that's all good, it must just be the small shafts. I wonder if I was to try some 5-1/2" feathers if that would do it?  I will try some cedars to see how they look. Thanks for all of your help guys.

ronp, what did you use to crest those arrows? nice...

ronp

With longer, 5-1/2" feathers I was able to get quite a bit of helical on those arrows.  Terry, those are just arrow wraps from Onestringer, a sponsor here.
