A buddy of mine has great success with them.  But he sets them up early, before the season comes in.  This year he nailed a big 8 pointer only 9 steps from his blind.

Thanks for the replies everyone! It seems quite obvious that the way to success with pop up blinds is to put them out ahead of time and/or spend time brushing them in. I will keep that in mind this fall and add it to my bag of tricks. Thanks, SS

I had one setup for a month or longer before season and had it brushed in good. this was several years ago. i killed three does from it all under 10 yards. RC

I set them up, hunt and have no problem.  In open county just set it up, if it's thick brush it in.  If you hunt real close to a core area you might have some, jumpy ones that will be stand offish, for a while.

Inanimate object.  If you get busted I think it would be more likely from unstable wind or movement.

My cousin has the sleeper from a semi mounted on a chassi/frame and it is still bright red.  It's been sitting in an open spot for ten years now, so yes they are used to it.  He uses it for rifle hunting, but I took my grand-daughter out one Saturday and that was the only place we could sit together.  I had a doe walk 360 degrees around us with out finding us and she was looking.

Honestly I have no idea how many deer and turkeys we have killed out of blinds in the last ten years. A few raccoons, coyotes and other critters too, they take some getting used to. I have sit and videoed hundreds of animals that we didn't want to shoot bucks and does and most didn't know we were around and yes some have still busted us.

You still need to air your blinds out a decent them before using to get that new smell out of them, we shoot thru the netting most of the time and that helps hold some of the scent in the blind. We still stay as clean as possible and as quiet and use the wind like we would for any other setup for whitetails.

Most of time we are able to use cedar trees and just trim up some lower branches slide the blind in or under the tree and that has always worked well for us. If not we will put them next to one and use branches from another cedar tree to brush them in has worked good too.

This cedar tree has accounted for atleast a dozen deer and turkeys alone and several tradgangers can back me up on this. We have used three different blinds in this location all have worked just fine but I like the big Barronett blinds.

It's in a small transition clearing between feeding and bedding we keep it mowed. The view!

A little preseason scouting from it!

I will post some more setups!

Brushing in with Cedars and Pines has proven quite effective this time of year for your application.

As solely a ground and pounder, I rely heavily on the aforementioned setups. If there are no Cedars or Pines within the immediate area, I hall them in.
