got a ? bout cane arrows

The point end of my cane arrows are larger than the diameter of my glue on heads. Therefor, when i taper my arrows and glue on a head, there will still be some taper left behind the head. Know what i mean? Is this a problem? If so, how do you go about dealing with it?

Try a hardwood plug in the cane and taper that to fit your glue on's...

osage, are you talking about just plugging it, as usual, and then tapering the plugged end? Or are you saying to have the hardwood dowel protruding from the end of the shaft, and to taper that. Either way (in my head) the shaft behind the head will still be a larger diameter than the ferrule. Is this a problem?

I'm seriously considering trying ionians method of splicing both ends. Really chaps me to get a shaft nice and straight and then have it split when drilling out the end or inserting the plug. The splicing seems a little more fool proof if you use the right set up.

Unless there is a big gap the space won't hurt anything. The only problem I can think of would be pulling them out of a target. What heads are you going to use. If you use a trade point or a stone point you won't have a problem then either.

I would shoulder the point and maybe file it down smooth so there isnt to sharp of a lip. Depending on how much bigger it is. Plug it first to give yourself something to taper too, then taper and leave a shoulder.....then mount head easy as mud. If its too big, nock it down with a file

Just get a belt sander and take some off the diameter of your foreshaft a very simple fix..don't split the cane, no need to plug it...gut

gutpile, i have to disagree. By taking down the diameter of the shaft, you are thinning the walls and therefor weakening the point end substantially. And if you do not plug the end of the shaft, you will have nothing to taper to. Your head will have very little to "bite" to.

Right now the only glue on heads i have are snuffer 125s. But if i can get some cane flying good enough to feel confident with it on big game, im thinking bout some glue on sharks.

oh and i had another brain fart today, while i was day dreaming in my imaging and exposure class. I just hate having to drill and plug the ends. How do yall think it would work to fill the end with either epoxy or fiberglass resin? It should substantially strengthen the end of the arrow....no need to drill....no risk of splitting...should taper nicely....looks like a win win to me.

well I read you post wrong I thought you were foreshafting your cane..since you are pluggin it this is what you have to deal with if you foreshafted it you would be good to go already..my bad...I don't plug my cane enver had one split either..just foreshaft and she is good to go...gut
