West central South Dakota help

I am headed to Rapid City South Dakota in the middle of October for a family vacation/pheasant hunt and going out early to do some mule deer hunting. I see a lot of walk in areas within a hour drive from Rapid City, has anyone hunted that area? Just looking to get pointed in the right area.
