KME New Diamond Hones

Ordered me some new diamond hones since my original xcoarse was getting tired. Been a while since I had been on Ron's site and was surprised at all the new stuff ! I ordered the 50 grit, " Beast " and boy is it ! No more wasted time and effort getting a bevel set on a abused knife, especially on the tip where most need major bevel work done.

Next for me will be the broadhead jaws and pen knife jaws so I can sharpen small filet knives and other very small bladed knives without hitting the jaws with the stone.

KME is not definitely not resting on their laurels.... very happy to see they continue to make the, " Greatest tool ever devised on this planet ", even better... as if that was possible. A tip of the hat to you Ron....

I purchased a KME knife sharpener earlier this year and I really like it. I was able to sharpen some old Bear razorheads super sharp

Agreed, I was sharpen challenged until I got a set of Ron's Diamond stones. Now I can sharpen quickly and much sharper than I ever could. Real Deal and the most important tool for any outdoorsman.

Good to see the great reviews.  Ron and his Bro are top notch people... excellent product and no, they never rest on their laurels... although they get many kudos!  

As many have read me post, I was President and Founder of Can't Sharpen $hix, International, and had to resign after getting my KME and some tutelage from Ron...

Lots of good people suffer needlessly with sharpening where a KME, properly used, (I did everything wrong from the gitgo but Ron got me lined out), will result in the need for lots of bandaids!

Amen to Jim B's comment.  As you read my story, I did everything WRONG, till Ron walked me thru the process. I even went so far as to type up the steps and put them in my KME kit.

Big issue is that many of us get tired trying to raise a wire on the off side with the coarsest stone.  If you don't get that "wire" on the off side, no matter what or how long, you won't get it sharp.

Ron's told us all, if it's not sharp when you're done with the coarsest stone, you're NOT done!

The rest just polish the edge and tooling marks from the coarsest medium.

If you're trying BH's some are exceptionally hard and had very different bevels/angles.  The regular stones are hard to remove enough material to get a wire on the off-side, or change the angle of the bevel!  

That is why Ron came up with better diamond stones.  I wore my original diamond stones out trying to sharpen some tough steel BH's.  I got his newer diamonds and got much better results. Same with some of the newer S/S knife blades!

I once worked for 45 minutes with the coarsest stone and still had no wire... that can be very frustrating... So then I invested in better grade stones and walla!

Do as JimB said, call Ron.  It's not the KME's fault, it's 99.9% us as the operator.  Once you figure out what you're NOT doing you NEED to do, it will be like eZ peezy!

Do it! Call the man!  If he's on the line with another, leave a # where he can call you back. He will!

Oh, lawdy! I'n gonna have to get one of those 50grit diamond stones!

KME is a good as it gets, and Ron is better than that!

Very well said Doc Nock..... you are absolutely correct on all points. I think that 100% of the folks that initially do not like or get results with their KME is due to, " Not getting the bevel ALL the way down to a burr on the offside FIRST with the COARSEST stone in their set. I can get a shaving sharp, ( granted it pulls hair rather than cleanly cutting it ), with the extra coarse diamond stones.

ranger 3..... go back to your coarsest stones and do NOT flip that blade to the other side until you can feel the wire / burr edge with your nail. Once you do, flip and do not flip again till you have raised it from that side too. Once you get there you can change stones and start honing and polishing to your hearts desire, the sky is the limit.

I sharpened a old Mora for a friend last night in about 30 minutes while watching TV. Started with the 50 grit "Beast " due to the tip bevel being all screwed up. Got a burr on both sides the full length of the blade and sharpened the point almost like a needle. The switched to 300 grit, then went to a white arkansas, then the leather faced stone using 4 micron CBN oil. I normally do not go to this much trouble but I wanted to show off I guess......    

You should have seen the look on my buddies face when I threw the sheathed knife to him and quoted Chris Lapp from "Jerimiah Johnson ", "There you go Pilgrim.... sharp enough to skin a fish with. " He had a bare patch on his arm that was done in one swipe of the Mora and it was smoother than my wife's legs.......
