New life for some old Bears

Also added to the rack this week was a 51# '57 Cub.  I really liked the way my 46# Cub shot and "needed" a heavier one for deer.  The tips on the 51#er are significantly wider than on the earlier model... is that common to the '57 Cub?

Coming in next week will be a 53# '55('54?) Polar and if I can talk *someone* out of it a '57 Kodiak Special       :D

   Actual wernt some of those old Bears what they called longcurves,because after they where strung the string didn't touch the bow....?
   You need a 52,nice year the year I was poped out....

Yup, both the Alaskans I have were called "semirecurves" as were the mid-fifties Cub and Polar (I think Panda too).  Deep down I'm a longbow man, so those "low end" Bears really interest me!  It's hard to deny the '59 Grizzly and Kodiak Specials are some damn fine looking bows though!

Funny thing you should mention a '52...  :D

Jeremy, Looks like you got it bad. I just got a 1969 Kodiak Magnum 52" 50# that is going to be my turkey bow this spring. I shoot my 1966 Grizzly as well as any bow I own. Have fun with them.

Nice collection! I picked up a '55 Kodiak 47# 64" with double shelf off the auction site last spring and can't put it down. Smooth, whisper quiet and fast. My excuse was to learn to shoot on my dominant eye side (L) and to try tip overlay repair since it was missing one (and therefore cheap). Turned out to be about as nice a glass bow as I've ever shot. Its going out first this season to work the does in a city hunt. Then back to the osage I promise - don't sick the Ferret on me!

I'm all for a late season hunt if I can horn in on vermonster and jeff    

if we do, I grab my brothers later model (mid late 70's ish I think) grizzly and we can make it a 'bear' hunt....

Hick (and Dave and Doc and anyone else) you're all more than welcome.  I talked to a friend and I think I can even get everyone in on a nice piece of private land - "You can kill anything with those sticks anyway."!  Getting a tag in CT is by mail only and you need a valid **Bowhunter Ed course certificate** or a recent CT archery permit.

I'll see if I can get a Turkey tomorrow morning - first time going after a critter since last year's JLMBH in Feb, even if it is just in the back woods and my wife can open the door and call me in... it counts, right?

unfortunately, I've still got my four CT deer tags burnin holes in my pocket, and I just got fall turkey tags last weekend.  I'm rarin to go...

I got my turkey tags yesterday and was hoping to fill one or both this morning.  You can set your watch by the turkeys that come through my property every day.  The first flock was around 30 yards out from me this morning when the neighbor let his dog out!  Another few minutes and the lead bird would have been at about 10 yards!!  Well, there's always Monday.

That '59 KSpecial sure does shoot NICE!  11 of my first 12 shots were in the kill zone from 15 to 30 yards (guess what distance wasn't "in there") LOL

went to hang a stand in some oaks that are torn up midday yesterday so I swung by and picked up my brother to help.   grabbed his grizz while I was there.  gotta take the weather rest off and put on some rugs before I can shoot it.

Here's the latest addition that showed up today: a 1954-55 64" 53# Polar.

I took a break from working on knives to set it up and shoot a bit.  With a bare string and a brace of 7-1/4" she's dead in the hand and whisper quiet.

It's gonna be REAL hard to choose what bow to hunt with next year!!

I know it aint a 1950's model...but...

heres the grizzly I picked up from my brother over the weekend (he hasn't shot it in years)

I spun up a new string for it while watching the SOX give an old fashion arse whopping to the indians last night.....decided to give the new string I made for it a stretchin' when I got home from work.

not bad for new string, no nock point, not entirely matched (to the bow) arrows, and only the second group outta the bow  (theres almost a doz. arrows in there).  I'm really gonna need to add some mass to this thing if I'm gonna shoot it much...pretty 'alive' in the hand, its marked 58" amo and 50#@28  so I figure I'm probably only pulling about 47-48 pounds or so...
