What riser woods compliment red cedar veneers?

Getting a new longbow built and have it narrowed down to a cocobolo riser and yew limbs. Or one with ? And cedar veneers.

Did a search but didnt find a whole lot....pics of ur bows with cedar veneers along with the riser and what it is would be a big help.

Thanks fellas!

I'm having one made from 7 Lakes archery. It's going to be zebra wood with red cedar veneers. The bowyer and I both thought it would look good.

Cocobolo, Koa, Bubinga, Goncalo Alves, East Indian Rosewood, are all lovely or if you like a darker riser Macassar Ebony or African Blackwood would make an awesome contrast to red cedar.

Cocobolo and tulipwood are my favorite. My favorite Toelke Chinook is cedar (juniper) and cocobolo and is a stunner.

I have a Treadway with cedar lams and an Osage riser.......it caught my eye so fast that I bought it.

As been mentioned zebra or birds eye maple would be a very good contrast with cedar.

+1 for osage. I have one with that combination and, as the osage darkens with age, it just gets looking better.

Thanks guys. Cocobolo was my intial thoughts...just needed other opinions before I sealed the deal.

If anybody has anymore pics I would love to see them.

Osage, Maple, Yew; a hunting bow made of North American wood is just...."right" somehow!

Read Aldo Leopold's letter to his friend Herbert Stoddard sometime that was printed in "Billets to Bows" by Glenn St Charles. It is one of the most beautiful testimonials I've ever read to Yew wood, the craft of bow making, and friendship.

I've seen osage and cedar as well and think it is a great combination.

Osage and tigerwood(goncalo alves) makes a great combination with red cedar veneers. Also Tigerwood and cocabola or osage and cocabola. I built one with yew and maple with red cedar veneers but used glass around the foot and put in a quarter inch phenolic I beam. which was uncut. God bless, Steve

I have a pair of Rose Oak #3 Bear TD limbs in Red Cedar. The red with off-yellow streaking is beautiful. Mine are on an A-Mag brown metal riser though.

I too think Coco would be a natural. If you are doing a recurve a coco with macassar in the riser would be great looking and have lots of mass, which I like.
