Took the pooch out for a walk this afternoon. About 35 yards away, I saw a Whitetail doe come up from the river bottom, right behind her was a tiny fawn, could not have been more than a couple of days old. WAY COOL!!!

Luck was with us as Dixie, our American Water Spaniel was going for a swim at the time. She does not chase deer, however, I'm not so sure of what she'd do if she saw the little one.
It's a good day for something.

Nice. . .  I think it is still a lil bit early for most of them, but it is just around the corner !

Drove down to Baltimore for the shoot this weekend. Sadly I saw several new spotted fawns that had been hit by cars. I hate to see that....

ron w- funny how we will shoot a deer in season and still hate to see a fawn killed. Am the same way. Have a hard time explaining to non hunters how much I enjoy watching deer [hate to see road kills because of the waste] and still enjoy hunting for meat in the fall.
Hope we have a good fawning season and a good mast crop in the fall. Two years ago the poor mast really hurt our squirrels and other game.
Time for our deer to drop fawns too.
Thanks, Roy
Maybe it is time to shoot what I have on the rack

Well, the fawns are dropping and the turkeys are hatching. Time to go all out against the coyotes.

I expect to see quite a few wobbly legged critters in the yard in the next few weeks!

They are so cool to watch!

I like seeing the tiny heart shaped prints in the dirt next to the big mama's hoof prints .

Saw a doe with a very young fawn two days ago while turkey hunting.  At first, through the thick brush, I thought it was a red fox harassing the doe.  When I put my binos on it, I made it out as a fawn, spots and all, and about the size of a fox.

One of my drivers witnessed a fawn drop today. I wish I could have been the one to see it.

My neighbor called me about this little guy.   Asked me "What should I do?"   After I made sure he was alright (no local dogs, and her 2 grandkids... with poking sticks in hand were clear of the little guy..... my response, "Nothing. Leave 'em alone.  Mom will come back."

The neighbor was relieved when mom came back, and left with the youngin.

I doubt the anti hunting crowd will ever understand how much most hunters care about the welfare of the birds and animals we hunt. To them, we're cold blooded killers, but we know better.      ;)

It should be a few weeks yet before we start seeing fawns here.

Great pics David, thanks.
