Took my Bear rep out on a pig hunt last night. As always we enter stands in the daylight just in case they are hitting at dawn. With my guard down, I entered the no name stand rather quickly and not as quiet as I should have only to bust some fatties from the pines surrounding the stand. They had been in there about 30 minutes before I got there and had cleaned the place out and were in the process of leaving no stone unturned when I sent them on their way without great alarm. Well, I said a few unpleasant things about myself and after spreading some more corn, entered my pearch. Both my rep and I were serenaded by pig fights and squealing all night long until about 9 P.M. when a small group of fatties chased a sow through my area. They knew something was up, but since they had love on their mind didn't hang around long enough to work out the details. I'm getting used to it, but it can be frustrating having any pigs...big or not in range and not being able to do anything about It. Unfortunately, even though the pigs came in close, Jeff (my Bear rep) didn't get an opportunity.

I also want to issue a warrant for the rest of this fella. Although he is not armed or dangerous, he is an annoying little bugger, although I expect him to be an annoying big bugger soon!
Really just a cool picture...coming soon

Yeah, that coon is kinda cute, but preacher has no love in his heart for a corn stealing coon! Me neither, but I don't buy the corn  :)

Them coon can't tote off too much peanut butter. That is my responsibility.

He better not get too comfortable. Preacher will plant that joker if he sees him. He's pretty good on the pigs too. If I can count correctly, Preacher has taken at least 10 pigs this year...but of course he could have put three of him in his front pocket  :)

hunting hogs can be crazy........ you can blow 8 stalks in a row and then turn around and kill 3 in 2 days.

and that's one reason I love hunting them

Man I want to take a hog hunting trip! Never even seen a wild hog before!
I'd rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6

I called the peanut butter man today and he said that he had just sold all his peanut butter yesterday...two tractor trailers full of 55 gal drums of peanut butter.
He did say that there would be more on Tuesday...whew!
Preacher has been digging post holes just off the road a tad and filling them full of corn and molasses.
Did about a dz yesterday morning and said every hole  was hit by this morning.

Trying to create a few more spot and stalk opportunities during the daylight.

This pig chasing can get addictive.

Friend

Big Jim...Is it possible hog hunting is more addictive than you had ever anticipated?

I,for one,hope so!

Being solely a ground hunter, the opportunities you and Preacher are developing a becoming more and more and more and more enticing.

Oh....and most of my busting stalks have been due to the wind....based on the areas I'm hunting the wind is my biggest enemy. .....sometimes up can wait it out....others you have to rush them......

Yes, hog hunting is very addicting especially since I have more opportunities at hogs than deer locally.
Terry, I seem to be my own biggest enemy as we all probably are.
Being too impatient has cost me a few...but then not seizing the moment has also cost me a few.

When you fall off the horse..or pig, you brush yourself off, cuss like hell and get back on the other side as quickly as possible.

There is no end to the advice one can get on hog hunting. It will all work and at the same time none of it will work.
I have been told that according to some "study" that the pig is considered to be in the top ten on the intelligence factor of all animals (debatably the human ranked number one).
In that study, the dog isn't even in the top ten.

It can be kind of cool that we are dealing with an animal that seems to learn faster than we do. Thank the lord that there are more of the un educated ones to keep us fed than there are the educated pigs that keep us fedup!
