As you travel around for the next few days, grab those trees in the trash.  Real trees make places for small game to get out of the weather. Artificial trees can be used to build ground blinds, funnel deer where you want them and shield your stand    you will be keeping stuff out of the landfill. Oh, take off the lights , balls and tinsel

If you leave the lights on you can just plug it in and find your stand or blind easier. But kidding aside thats a great idea about reusing them. They will make a great natural ground blind.

Great tip!
I still have a ground blind made out of 4 artifical trees that has been out there for years. It works great.

KyStickbow

We used a couple artificial christmas trees for ground blinds a few years ago. They worked great!
Aim small...Miss small!!

yeah, just plug into a currant bush.

We always get a real tree, and after it comes down we put it out by the bird feeders. The juncos and small birds roost in it all winter long, along with the occasional rabbit. If the local hawk swoops down, they all scramble to the xmas tree to escape.
In the spring, it is the best fire starter going for burning winter brush.

Thanks for everything, dad.

I have access to about a half dozen trees each year and use them to freshen up my ground blind.

We sink them for spring crappie haunts.

I just snagged an 8 foot artificial tree today!

7 Lakes

Same here awbowman.  All seven lakes in my development were built with no cover for fish.  Just a few tree "plantings" next to the old creek bed make for some of the best Crappie fishing in NC.  Especially if you are the only one that knows where they are.

Good idea will be tree hunting the next several weeks.

I plug my tree blind with lights into lightning struck trees.

Trees don't go into the landfill where I live. They grind them up with the other yard waste and turn them into mulch which is used in the composting operation.

Wire a concrete block to them and sink them in the lake, make great fish condos.

sheepdogreno

They also work great dropped in your pond for crappie... I've caught a lot of slabs fishing over submerged Xmas trees. Real ones of course!
I'd rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6

We used to use them for our indoor winter shoots.  Trees all over the place to create the atmosphere, distraction, shooting lanes, you name it, we had all kinds of fun over the years..trees were mulched at the end of winter....we moved buildings and the winter indoor shoots were thing of the past....

Be sure to check your state's environmental laws before using those old trees as fishing holes.  In some states such disposal of 'woody debris' in public waters is illegal.  Same goes for putting them on property you don't own unless you have owner permission.  Gotta' be careful out there.

graybarkhunter

I got 11 real trees today, but they're going under water ( private lake)...I like the ground blind idea though
