Broadhead vs field tip

Question.....do you guys shoot the exact same weight field tip for practice as you do broadhead for hunting?  I feel like you would because of tuning to a specific point weight.  But for some reason I feel like I read people going a little heavier on the broadheads.  Thanks.

I use the same weight broadhead as i do my field points which both weigh in at 125 grain.  I have killed deer, turkey, bear and nyala bull in Africa with Zwicky, Eskimos.

Because a broadhead is longer it could actually lower spine by a little bit, so logically a field point could stand to be a few grains heavier to match it. Personally, I shoot the same weight as my Hill and Grizzly broadheads and cannot tell the difference.

I shoot 175gr field points and 160 gr 2-blade BHs and cannot tell any difference at all. Practically speaking, I usually have to change by more than 25 gr before seeing any real difference at 20 yds.

Mine are pretty close, and I shoot broadheads a lot in my practice sessions too.

I try to get em close..within 10 grains....but normally it's hard to tell the difference in up to 20 grains.

What Pavan said has merit. But normally the little tiny bit of spine change isn't noticeable. I'd dare say if you notice a change after putting on similar weight broadhead you either didn't install it straight or your arrow spine was wrong to begin with and the BH is exaggerating the problem.

...or you may have to "adjust" your mind to the new sight picture.


look up paper tuning..try it..it's super easy to do and it helps a lot.

Doesn't have to be a fancy set up..
I lay a 2x4 across a couple stools.
Staple a piece of newspaper to it on the ends and middle.
Put a couple spring clamps on the bottom of the paper to hold it down.

..shoot through it from about 5 foot...yes foot.

i shoot 200 grain heads and 190 grain 2 blade meatheads....perfect flight in relation to my field heads
