Since there's so many Tradgangers gonna be there the weekend of the 14-16, we should try to setup a meeting place, so we can all get to know the gang. What do you guys think?

Tony that sounds great. Name a spot. Are you going to the shoot August 2nd?

kiamichi kid, some of the persimmons should be ripe by then.  It's odd but you will find most of the persimmons are still green but if you do enough scouting, I think you can find a few stands of persimmons that are ripe and that's where I would spend my time. Best of luck.

Gordon, I will be looking for orange on the ground for sure. Thanks everyone for the tips!

It's a fun hunt and always good to see and talk to everyone around the camp fire at night.

How can I find more information on the shoot in August. I have never been but don't live to far away?

I also drew out for Deer Creek Oct 24-26...I hunted Deer Creek last year and seen lots of deer. It was all about the acorns last year but who knows about this year. I am gonna try and make the archery shoot.

How does one draw a tag two years in a row?
Everything has a price - the more we accept, the more the cost

Lots of folks get drawn back to back years. It's not as likely since you have no preference points but I have heard of plenty of folks being drawn multiple years in a row. I have even heard of guys hunting 2 weekends of the fall at McCalester.  One on a quality pass from killing a doe the year before and the other from being redrawn on a different weekend from that current year's application.

As this hunt becomes more popular especially as a traditional hunt it is becoming harder to get drawn even with preference points. I used to get drawn every other year starting in 2000 but haven't been drawn now for 4 years. Last time I was there were quite a few out of state hunters there. More money for the DOW.

I don't know either, it took me 6 years to draw the first time and now I have drawn 5 out of the last 6 years. The only thing I can think of is they figured out the deer are safe with me hunting them.

I got drew last year which was the first year I applied and then I got drew again this year. Haha yeah I agree with horn chaser...the deer are safe with me hunting them too!

I just wish there were more military bases that would have draw hunts that have deer management programs like MCAP

In most cases hunting on military posts is reserved for active duty, reserve, national guard, military retires, wounded veteran's with at least 60% disability, and dependents. I believe this is a justified perk for all they sacrifice on our behalf. The prior individuals are more able to hunt in a training environment without shutting a bases down because they can't read a map or know each bases regulations. All hunting on each base is at the discretion of the post or base commander. That is the reason Bill tells everyone during the pre-hunt briefing that if any rules are broken the hunt can be shut down. He means it. I have seen it happen on other posts because people refuse to follow the regulations.
