I have a question on how many strands on a flemish string I need for a hybrid longbow shooting 43# at 26". Do I still need 16 strand or can I go lower? Also if I go lower do I need to upsize my serving to make up the difference for my nocking point?

Thanks

I only build endless loop strings, I would use 12 strands of B50 for that string.

Depends on the type string material you are using and your preferences.

16 strands of B-55 or other polyester material would be way overbuilt IMO.  You could probably get away with 10, but that's on the low end IMO.

With Dynaflight '97, 10-12 with the loops padded to 18.

With 8125, 12 with the loops padded to 18.

With BCY-X or 8190, I'd go with 18 strands with the loops padded to 24.

You can go up in serving size for a proper nock fit, or build up your nock point with dental floss.  Padding under the serving is doable, but I personally don't care for it.

So if I go with 12 strands of b-55 do I need to pad my loops?

LBR

No need to pad loops with B-55

What is the difference between b-50 and b-55. As you can tell from the posts I am a newbies at making strings.

B55 is the newest dacron polyester material, suppose to have less stretch and creep.B55 is slightly larger diameter per srand then B50.I think it is like .018 for B50 and .020 for B55.I find a 12 strand B55 about the same diameter as a 14 strand B50 as far as serving them up for nock fit.

LBR

B-55 is just a higher grade of polyester.  More consistent, less creep and stretch, but still safe for any bow.
