single bevel phathead

Dropping bow weight and looking at a new setup- 43# RER longbow and gold tip 3555 traditional carbons with the 100 grain brass insert, with hopefully the 145 grain titanium single bevel Phatheads in front.  Anyone shooting these heads?  Any other suggestions on a good 145-150 grain heads? (I prefer to try a 2 blade single bevel but am open to suggestions/arguments).

The 150 gr Stingers,though not single bevel,are excellent.

Eclipse 145 grain with adapter and 50 grain insert instead of 100 grain.  Should be able to tune them.  Tusker would do too

I'm using 3555s with my 43# RER recurve and 46# longbow limbs. 50 gr insert weight on the standard 11 gr insert and 145 gr BH flies great. I think if you play with the length a bit you will be able to get those heads working right.

The double bevel Phathead is among the best broadheads made. I've never seen a single bevel. Are you sure it's the 4 blade Phathead?

It's a 2 blade head... 3 river carriers them.  I bareshafted this setup and all looks good.  I'm just debating on that particular head... it's a single  bevel but nowhere close to a 3-1 ratio... I want all the penetration help I can get.  My arrow will be a touch over 530 grains.

Those must be new, I just looked them up on 3R. The Phathead was always a 4 blade head, double bevel. Basically, what you're asking about is a 2 blade single bevel with no bleeder. While I love the "regular" Phathead, with 3/4" bleeders, the main blade is only 1". Now, with bleeders it's 1" x 3/4" and it's a crazy good head. But without bleeders, you have a 1" wide single bevel. A 1" 2 blade could result in poor blood trails. If it was me, I'd get the 145gr "regular" Phathead, double bevel with bleeders. You'll love those.

Thanks for the ideas... maybe I should go to plan b and go to the 150 woodsmans... is there a 3-1 single bevel 150 grain head out there?

Check out the Grizzly broadheads that Bill Dunn is making. The Single bevels come in quite a variety of weights and the new 3 blade Instinct is an awesome head!

Like Tony said,look at the Grizzly-nothing but praise from our customers about them.The Grizzly 3blades are 175 grain and 200 grain.

Phathead is short, not much mechanical advantage.  Longer two blade Grizzly  or similar head of the appropriate weight is a better choice for a lighter bow, I think.
