Hi trad gangers. I need help with arrow tuning. I have been shooting 340spine arrows cut to 30inches out of my martin Jaguar bow. they seemed to shoot ok but when i shot a unfletched arrow the spine seems way tp stiff with my 165gr zwickey's Im thinking of  buying 400 spine arrows. should I firs bareshaft tune before I fletch or should I fletch  an arrow and bareshaft tune from there?

Bow weight at your draw length??  340s are pretty stiff for most trad bows but we need more information to help much.

Are you willing to give up what you are; to become what you could be?

One other point. You're not really shooting the broadheads unfletched, are you? Bareshafting is for field points. Without fletching to stabilize the arrow and impart some spin, the broadhead can really plane away.

Johandre, also tell everyone how you have set your adjustable rest.

The bow draws about 53 pounds at my draw of 28 inch. I don't shoot the Bheads unfletched i use 150gr field points. i did hunt with the 340 but was not satisfied. I use 5inch feathers on them

For my Martin I could only get 500's to fly right. I drew #52-53 at 29". Shot 30" 3555's with 145 grain points and 100 gr. weights. Three 5" feathers. Total about 540 gr. They did not match with the calculators. My NAP Centerest was set to about 1/8" past center. I bareshaft tested these also. I could never get 5575's or CE 250's to fly right. Always too stiff.

My thought is they are probably stiff.  i get great flight out of 500's for all my bows, 50 up to 57 pounds.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

340's are way to stiff. At your current point weight,.400's probably will be as well.To keep that current point weight, with aluminum inserts, you will most likely need .500's.

my rest is set to senter. I just found an old 400 spine vforce arrow and tested it in the barn seems to do much better. it is cut to 29 inches. I wanted to get brass inserts for my arrows but i cant seem to find some in South Africa. Thanks for all the help everyone

If your using standard diameter carbon shafts, get some .243/6mm bullet heads and glue them behind the standard insert.

what I will do is buy a couple of 400 and 500 spines and bareshaft them. or should i go straight for the 500spines?

Personally, I'd go to 500's. I had the same bow until a couple of weeks ago. I think it's a little slow.

johandre

ok I"ll go with 500spines.will buy me a faster bow the end of this year. for now this 1s got to do

I shoot a 400 spine out of my bow 53@ 27, the 500's were not stiff enough, I am using a 375 grain front end. I tried to get the 500's to fly but no such luck. I also tried the 340's and they shot pretty well but not as good as the 400's. When I did my bare shafting the 340's made a perfect whole but with a tuffhead broad head the 400's were the ticket.

ok so this is what i did since i strugle to get brass inserts i took copper wire and cut them to equal length and glued them in the back of my inserts now ive got 270gr on the front end of a 400 spine easton power flight. bare shaft tuning went well. ended up with a 30.5 inch arrow. and its still hitting the target like a dart at 20 yards

Ok so this is what my problem is now.when i fletched the arrows the spine seemed to,weak.the fletched and unfletched arrows hit at the same spot but the fletched ones spine seems to weak.what causes this?
