TradGang,

Here I sit, piled up on my couch.  Three consecutive 75 hour work weeks robbed me of the final days of our turkey season here in NC, and left me with a hernia in desperate need of repair.  I underwent surgery yesterday, so I am on the road to recovery.  Six weeks.  Six dreadful weeks of not shooting my bow.

Okay....so now the whine party is over, and I revolve to the point of this post.  While it is easy to laze about and wallow in self pity, I can't help but realize how fortunate I really am.  Fortunate enough to have a job that pays well and offers outstanding health benefits.  Fortunate enough to have a fiancé and a loving family, that supports my fanatical obsession with bows and bowhunting.  Fortunate enough to have a couple really good dogs to keep me company.  Fortunate that in six weeks I will be back!!!  Bow in hand.  Building and tuning arrows.  Consulting topo maps of hunting areas, organizing and reorganizing my gear.  Planning another years worth of hunts with my favorite people in the world.

Thanks a lot Tradgang.  This community is amazing.

Jake:

Sorry to hear about your hernia surgery. Depending upon the location and surgery, 6 weeks most likely will not be enough time to heal.  Be sure you do what the Doc. says because you do not want a repeat.  I've had 3 "lower" hernia's in my younger days and they took at least 10 weeks to fully recover.  Be patient and don't become a patient again.  Best of luck on your recovery.

The road to "Sherwood" makes for an awesome journey.

I had a double hernia and was off for 1 week. I think 6 weeks might be a worst case senario. Maybe it is the degree of the hernia, I don't know because I'm no doctor. Any how, I hope you heal quick. Go back to work with a note that says "keep feet elevated and drink plenty of liquids".

Hernia surgery now is different than then. I had one years ago, so I'm familiar with the long recovery times.    :(
Smaller incisions and different methods make recovery time quicker now - just follow your doctor's advice.

I have nothing but respect for a man who knows how to count his blessings! Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery.

If you have not already "broken the code", this could be a good time to get those broadheads sharper than an unkind word!

Best wishes.

It is good to hear that you are healing well. Take it easy, and don't try to push things too fast. I have had 2 hernias fixed, so I know the urge to start doing normal things as soon as possible. You are fortunate that you have a really good support group to assist you during this time. You now have time to do some really detailed planning and reorganization of your gear.
