Taipan or whip

Taipan.  No hesitation.  I enjoyed my whip but the taipan is just perfection in ny book

Probably hard to go wrong with either.  Maybe give each bowyer a call and see what they have to say. You probably have an idea of what you want and they could probably steer your in the direction to best suit you.

They both are top drawer creations by two of bowyering's finest craftsmen.  I think one of the keys to your eventual choice will come in the grip department.

I loved the look of my whip....whisper quiet, great shooting bow, but as Green said above, the grip is what made me move away from the Whip.  Couldn't get used to it.  The Taipan has been calling me as well!  Lucky for my marriage I am fresh outta green backs:)  Good luck with your choice Dan and please post photos, whichever you decide.  Dan Toelke was a great guy to deal with but I hear the exact same about JD.

I have not shot a Taipan, heard great things.  I have owned several Whips and they are one of the finest longbows you will ever shoot.  You can ask Dan to wrap the standard grip in leather or beaver.  He doesn't offer it 'publicly' but he will do it.

I haven't shot either but I ordered a Taipan . I can let you know how I like it around November. Good choice on either one though I only hear good stuff about them both. JD was a pleasure to talk with and had a lot of info.

Thanks guys.   My North Star is coming soon and I know I want  to get on the list again  looking for a great 3d. Bow at a lower poundage.  Around 47&28. Getting beat up shooting my hills  around 60.  Do you think  47 taipan will have almost the same performance as the 55 plus hills ?

A 47@28 Taipan will be a very hard hitting bow.  I would assume that because the Taipan is a duo-flex design you will notice it will have more cast than a traditional Hill style.

I can only speak for the whip.  I loved the one I had it was a take down and I absolutely loved the grip!

I owned a Whip Dan,shooting and workmanship with the best of them, just never felt solid with the thumb rest.

I've never had a whip. I've seen one and is a good shooter for its owner.

My taipan is a forever bow, never to be sold feels great to me and greatly enjoy shooting it. James is a craftsman and a heck of a nice fellow!

I'm with Rob on the grip though. The grip makes or breaks a bow for me. Has to feel right.

Grip is an individual thing I saw a picture with h hill and the Shultz brothers in a trophy picture with a deer I noticed the bow grips not generic but different Johns grip having a saddle and smaller than howards.Take the leather off and and fill it in with bondo or sand it down till it feels rt.A strait wedge grip is what I like.my 2 cents.
