Hey guys I thought some of you might like this. A guy I work with was in a bind and needed some cash, so he offered this thing to me. He said his grandpa had gotten it as a birthday present and ended up giving it to him. I looked it over and saw it was in really good condition. He said his grandpa hardly ever shot it. I decided to help the guy out and buy the bow off of him.
I really like the color of the bow. The green and white with the blue strip through the riser is a nice touch I think. Can anyone give me anymore information on these bows? The serial number is Ku87720, 52" and the other number is 40x#. does that mean it is over or under 40#?
The bow is quite light for my tastes but it shoots an arrow pretty hard for its draw weight.
Can anyone give me an idea of the year of the bow and a rough value? The bow is in mint shape that's for sure. Hardly a scratch on the thing. Are these good bows? Thanks and give me your thoughts. Enjoy SS.

Wow! That is a beauty. I love my KMags. I wish I could run across a deal like that.

There are lots of folks here more knowledgeable than myself to answer your questions. I think it's early 70's vintage and 41# (x's after the number indicate over...before means under) to the best if my recollection from what reading I did a few years ago. Congrats on your new bow.

K-Mags are fantastic bows!!! I absolutely love mine! One of the best out there (esp. for a production bow) for traipsing around through thick brush, ground blinds, or treestands. the short length means you are WAY less likely to have any clearance issues anywhere. That's my experience anyway.

Sorry I can't help with any of your other questions, except to say that shag08's reply re: draw weight is right from what I've read also.

Congrats on a great find! At that weight I'd think that it would be good for form work, hunting most N. American animals, bowfishing...whatever! Looks like a good all-around bow!

The bow is the green future wood K-Mag. It is a 1973-1975 model. I have one just like it. Nice Bows!

That one is in great shape. They tend to go for around 175ish - some a little more some a little less. The Grayling KMags were made through 1977 and in 1973 the 1953 date trademark was taken off the limb. It is somewhere in between 40-and 45#I'm shooting that vintage KMag myself only mine is not green. Love it; even at my almost 29" draw it doesn't hardly stack and has no finger pinch. Mine's a 45# bow but it has lost a little over time as it is only pulling 45 at my draw. Unfortunately S/N isn't going to help you any; unlike the 60's it has no year info contained in it.

The "X" was listed before or after the poundage to designate true poundage.  My first bow was a "74 Kodiak Hunter in "40X.  "I have seen them with "X" and "XX".  There should be an actual number under the strike plate.  This one should be 42#, but Bears tend to run a bit heavier than indicated.  I wouldn't be surprised if the scale showed it pulling 44-45# at 28"

Kmags have always been my favorite Bear bows. Great handle , great looking lines, and great length. Very quiet and also shoot very well. Someone can probably speak better than me, but I think they started building them around 62 or 63ish. All of them from that year till at least 75 were all great looking and shooting bows. I agree this one you have is around 42# and 73 to 75 for the year. Very nice find on that one.
Any day above ground is a good day!
