How do you carry a Turkey Box Call quietly?

Hello all,

Going out in the morning to try and waylay a bird.  Will be using a new Box call that sounds great.

All I've ever used in the past were Mouth calls and one of JoeBucks Scratch-Box calls.  Both are easy to transport quietly.

My question:  How do you carry a Box call in the woods without making a racket?  Tie something around it?

slip a piece of paper under the sound lid and rubber band it. I use brown construction paper or grocery sack. Don't use waxed or coated paper as it may affect the vibrations of the lid.

Previous poster hit the nail on the head...slip a piece of paper between and secure it all with rubber bands. When I carry box calls that's the only way they go in my vest.

I don't carry them much though. I use a mouth call 95% of the time.

EDIT: be sure to carry a piece of chalk to coat the surfaces after you pull the paper out. I have had a box call sound awful without the chalk after it all stuck to the paper.

That's what I used to do as well. Pretty much went to a slate.

I have a piece of chalk inside a baggie. The chalk is for the call, the baggie goes in between the box and paddle.

A chalked up piece of rag between the paddle and box. Rubber band around the whole thing.

I just saw a gizmo on the market, can't recall where. .  maybe on the Orvis site, that looked like a molded soft rubber ring, actually two, a large one that goes around the box and a skinnier one that goes around the top.  Keeps them apart and from moving.

I have all girls in the house so I use hair ties, I go over the paddle, cross the tie then over the box

Small piece of cloth and rubber band to make it quiet.  Also, 2 things:  1) sandpaper in a small ziplock with the chalk. The sandpaper will actually become covered with the chalk- a good cleaning of a slate or box paddle with the sandpaper makes them do magic. 2) A large gallon ziplock to carry the call.  If it rain or gets wet you can use the call inside the bag.

Also- not sure the box you have, but many you can gobble with.  It works great as an extra tool in the toolbox.  Gobbled in a beast this AM

Look on my right hip, I picked up this "holster" for lack of a better name.  I think I bought it at a Dicks sports store.  It has elastic sides and keeps the call from squawking when you walk.
It also has a small pouch for a mouth call or 2.

That's what I do also1

I put a piece of that rust color scotch pad under the lid and rubber band, and if my slate needs a little roughed up you can use the pad, kill two birds in one.

I put a rubber band around mine also.....but then I slip it into one of those thin foam or neoprene drink holders.
