bows for kids??

My wife and I have been blessed with twin girls  Lakyn and Gracyn who will turn 2 years old july 2nd they already love daddy's bows they carry them all around the house banging into everything and cry when I try to put it up.My question is how old do you think they should be before they get their own bows and where do I get traditional bows to fit them??  Thanks  Robbie

My nephew was 4 when he received his first.

When to Give a kid a  bow, in my opinion is a personal Choice.  If it were my kid and he had that much interest, even if only for a few seconds,  I would buy him a  small plastic one at 2-3 years old.  You can upgrade as they grow.

I bought a little bow with rubber suction tipped arrows when my boy  was very young.Thier fun for the toddlers and pretty safe.

Check with Mike at 7Lakes longbows. He makes Nite Lite bows for kids. Great bows and a great guy to deal with. Both my girls started with little plastic bows and arrows at probably around 3-4 years old.

My son just turned 2, I made a pvc bow using 3/4 sch 40 pvc with piece of pipe insulation as a handle. I cut it to 32" and drilled holes for the string. He pulls is back a little but mostly plays with it. Is he ready? Only he can determine that. I have put the seed in the ground. My buddy 'onions' started his girls between 2 and 3 with little longbows we built together, cool little customs.

my grandson is turning 3 in 3 weeks.  He has a little fiberglass bow and asks to shoot it.  No forcing him, he asks and like all of us loves to watch the arrows fly high and long.  
I actually found a "Little bear" which I got three weeks ago.  it is almost new and a new string has put it in the ready condition when he can pull it.
If the kids show interest, let me have one

I also started my boy @ 3. A guy named Roy Corsey out of SE washington makes very good kids bows, for pretty much the price of the wood. Bobcats are what he calls them. I've bought 2 for my son over the past few years.

I gave my 2-2 1/2 year old boy one of those $25.00 bows and he loved it, played with it all the time.

At seven he has a nice custom recurve a friend made for him.

I'm in the market for one for my 5  yr. old right now.

So yeah, I think with the interest you described there are safe and suitable bows for a two year old.

Enjoy, it's a priceless gift shooting with the kids.

At 2 or 3 kids show interest in bows but don't have coordination or strength to really shoot.  Your in the intro, fun, interest building years for a while. They are doing what they should do now.  You can make one from PBS or find them online or at a outdoor show.  I got on for my 22 mo. old son on Amazon.  It was wood with red handle and a string with little wood arrows.

When they are ready for a real bow look at Black Rhino, St. Joe River, or Bear.  They make kids bows.  Also just Google "childrens archery bows" or term like that and options will pop up.

I really like Black Rhino kid bows and will buy on next year.

They make great little bows for kids starting at 3 years old.  I bought my granddaughter one and she had some good fun with it.  Even at 3, you'll have to give a lot of help......but can sure plant fertile seeds.

My son is three and loves his black rino longbow. Its amazing how hard this little bow shoots. Great bows.

I started my son about age 4 with an Elk Ridge Archery pilgrim squirt, had them put my son's name on the bow, its a keeper.  Now he is on his third Elk Ridge bow, there is a trade in policy which helps with growing kids.

We started our kids at 16 months, you would be surprised how fast they pick it up and what they can handle. I highly recommend checking out St Joe River Bows as they have an excellent youth bow program. Plus it doesn't hurt that they are just wonderful people that go above and beyond to make sure you get what you need.

Agree with others that playing is what it's all about, for quite some time yet.

I gave my son his first bow when he was 20mnths old. I made it from a maple shoot. VERY easy to do. It measures 33" and draws about 5lbs at 14" -if I remember right. A couple Surgeon's Loop knots at the end of some cordage serves as a string. I used ~3strands of B50.

The arrows are 3/16 doweling, using black soft plastic "chair tips" from a hardware store for blunt points. I also used .22 casings for blunts as they fit on the 3/16" doweling perfectly.

I got a little fancy with his first arrows, staining them in rich black walnut, fletched them with grouse tail feathers, and made fluorescent wraps above the self nocks. Well.. he launched em into the great yonder in no time.     So I went to ugly but functional fluorescent blaze spray paint and less labor intensive fletching.
